Roving maxima......

Im going on 3 months with my new baby maxima, it has grown visibly and the clolors are getting better. I wokeup this morning to find it 1/2 way up the fron of my glass.... Ive raised a couple under .5" with sucess and taken care of afew @ work all the way to the 5" mark before sale. The other babies I've had never moved much, but this one seems very healthy but incredibly active. They 3.75" crocea in the same tank is doing well. My cal, alk, mag, ph, and temp all check out, the skimmer is doing great. I also add a good amount of DT's on a bi-weekly basis. Anyone have "hyper-active" clams in the past...?

Well, it started it move after dark (in the aquarium cycle) and I have them on a 6 hour due to the closeness of the HQI which is about 3" above the waters surface. Ive had to clean more creep (bi-daily) but the crocea seems to love it. I cant really get the light any closer so I guess he's taken matters into his own hands.....lol. I suspect a low PAR in the lamp as it is a JBJ. Im not sure who they go through for thier bulbs. Ive heard rumor that they are CA (catalina) but am not certain. If the behavior does not cease i will assume lighting as the flow is more than sufficient if not inhibitive where it has climbed as I've ruled out my known factors. Ive noticed more "halide excess" colleced in the bottom of the lamp than some other HQI's I've used. Anyone have exp w/ JBJ HQI's or know what brand they actually are?

I forgot to mention, I am deathly afraid of damaging it's foot so I am incredibly hesitant to move it....it's been doing so well.

It's already in the brunt of the flow, ther's a fixed standard PH pointed at the pane its on which deflects directly onto the clam visibly ruffling the mantle, and an occilating PH the blows right on it with a sweep in each direction....I think he just had a rough childhood and very little guidance as a clamling......;) J/K...but it is really vexing me.

for right now if it is opening and otherwise "normal" leave it be. in the long run it may have to be moved but if its happy now i would just keep a close eye on it.

Well, It couldn't withstand the ph, so it released then started back up the glass. I removed the large piece of LR in my display and "dug out" a cavity about 2.75" deep and 3" in an oval @ the hieght it tried to stay on the glass, filled it with sand and placed it in there. Its been an hour and he looks content.....we'll find out tommarow. While placing him in his new mini-sb i could see the new growth, he's almost a 1/4" taller with a one full new row of scutes and another small row developing.

Well, he's on a serious mission. something is buggin him. He has nice mantle extension, orients towards the light.....yet still insists on wandering. I already have a nice crocea in the same tank, so I really think he has different needs/"desires" than the crocea. For now Im going to let him exlpore.
