Royal Dragon Acropora

Yeah, i was kidding around. It might be a walindii, indonesian tenella, or fenneri or none of those. Scientific id is almost impossible for some of these sticks unless youre a trained marine biologist with a.microscope but unfortunately, they dont sell corals. I will look into the f stop and ansel adam. Thanks.

I figured you were, yet couldn't pass up the opportunity for the facepalm smilie.

While it may take a skeletal observation to know with absolute certainty what species it is, I still think it is worthwhile (and totally reasonable) to narrow down the possibilities. I agree with MammothReefer that A. carduus is also a good possibility. I doubt that it is an A. tennella.

Like you say, it's difficult to ID some of these lesser circulated growth forms. Not to mention the morphological differences that the same individual can show in different tanks or lighting.

Did you grow your colony out from a frag or was it a good sized wild piece to begin with?

I actually googled Acropora dragon haha

Anybody can take any coral and slap a name on it. Does that mean its the same species? The royal is a true A. Dragon Sp. You wont see it on corals of the world because Mr. Veron is pribably too busy discovering new corals to update it.

Right, anyone can slap a name on them. That was my point. Seems people are just throwing a color on front of the word "dragon"

Well it's a simple way to associate colour with a specific "shape/growth" of coral. Specifically one that nobody can agree on what species it is. With that said. I'm trade marking "XXX Griffin", and "XXX Phoenix". My blue Tenella shall now be dubbed "Blue Phoenix", and my pink/green unknown "stag" is now "Jade Griffin" hehe.

^_^

I bought it as a wild brown piece. The guy that sold it to me said it resembled a red dragon species, but thanks to the firefighter fuscia pics and a lineaged frag of mine, I knew instantly its potential.:eek1:

it attracts attn. for sellers but I'm just a hobbyist that sells frags to support my nasty sps addiction. I just thought the colony looked so dragonesque; therefore, the name dragon.

I googled jade griffin and saw a very pretty model thats just my type. Thanks for that.
Blue Pheonix sounds like it belongs in my tank!

I believe it has to do with the colour calibration of the equilibrium axe-fixation circumference due to hemispherical interface with your camera. Send me a frag, so I can experiment with optimal photograph settings I will then report my findings to you with an EXIF so you can the perfect photo settings. I will do this service for you free of charge oh and some of that acro in your avatar to use as a control.

the magnitude of the opposing symmetrical parameters creates the hemispherical interference that you mentioned earlier within the pic which can be fixed by retarding the diaphysis angle to its optimal level so there isn't a need just yet but I will let you know very shortly. LOL.

hahahaha. These cracked me up.

Beautiful coral. Following along on this one.

How about this one :D King Dragon ?? :))

What kind of placement for the dragons? i just got a piece of red dragon and have it on the bottom sand bed in lower flow, i have 3 250 w radiums on lumatek ballasts, w lumen max elite reflectors, on 6 hrs a day 10'' off water in a 26' deep tank w 2' sandbed, halides on 6 hrs a day, vho on for 10 hr, flow is a barracudda, and 3 mp 40, tank is a 245, 6' by 30'' by 26''t, thanks, sry for highjack.

Did you grow it out or is that a recent culture? Any daylight pics? Post more pics of that massive colony! Sweeeeet!

not a problem at all. if your tank is a mature system and all of your corals are doing fine then anywhere would be fine but preferably in lower lighting.

BlueAvatar~Would this be a more accurate pic? I adjusted the white balance and saturation a bit, I hope you don't mind. I'm really digging the cream colored branches and purple tips. Do you think mine will turn out that way?

I'm curious as to why the body doesn't have the fused corallites all over the body. Is this because of tank conditions or is this the tyree blue avatar acropora?
