Royal-Exclusiv / Vertex Cone Skimmer Club

Thanks. Yeah, So far it it is working so well I see no reason to buy a new volute. It was suggested to me by someone else.
Makes me realize how bad my other skimmer was. First good skimmer I've had. After it settled down I was getting the nice dry foam I've always wanted.
I put it on a piece of acrylic sheet. Super quiet.

Unfortunately we will not be bringing in the Vertex line going forward, I apologize. We do still fully support the skimmers that we sold from them, but we will not have them going forward, I'm sorry.

My red dragon died already.
Can you still buy these pumps? It's the 1500 for alpha 250?
I've done several break down vinegar baths. Sometimes it runs for a few seconds then just hums. Then stops.

Hi

I just installed alpha 170 today, and not clear what "leaving the wedgepipe fully open" mean. Do i pull the pipe upwards, or leaving it in fully down position and turn to the position pictured? I'm pretty sure its in the down position, however the air hose seems to be a bit too short and would kink, when its turned as pictured.

Push the red pipe back down in there. Look from the side into the outlet. If you were to push the red pipe straight down like you have it you will see that it would be about wide open. Then you twist the red pipe to close or open. You have to look from the side. Regarding the tube Mine can bind a little too (Alpha 250) Just depends on where it is but I did find the right spot. Can't remember off hand but I think my 250 runs wide open. Some people put marks with a sharpie to know where wide open is or their sweet spot setting but once set it should be good and never really need to move it as long as the water level in sump is constant.

Fully open means that the upper end of the wedge would be facing the outlet of the tee, just as you have it in the photo, only the pipe stays down inside the fitting. This is the fully open position. The more you turns that upper end of the wedge away from the opening of the tee fitting the more you'll be closing it down, until you have the upper end of the wedge at the complete opposite side of the opening in the tee fitting.

Yes, looks fine to me. Press down on the air tube coming out of the wedge pipe and that will help to reduce the water coming out of that hole.

thank you Jeremy! appreciate you taking the time to explain!

Coming from a Red Sea C-skim 1800, which i don't think was doing the job. can't wait to see the end result of the vertex!

So, I bit the bullet and bought the Alpha 200. I'm still waiting for it to settle down; it has only been running two days. I know it is a liitle late to ask now, but since Royal Exclusiv is no longer producing this model, does it still have the Red Dragon pump?

Does the lid say Royal-Exclusiv on it, and if you can post a picture of the pump itself I can tell you if it's a Red Dragon or not. Even if it's not a Red Dragon it will still have the Askoll motorblock, but a slightly different impeller and shaft.

The lid does not say Royal-Exclusiv. I will post a photograph of the pump this evening. Can the impeller and shaft be replaced? Would there be any advantage to changing the impeller and shaft?

As I stated earlier, the skimmer is still in the break-in process, but I am wondering what the proper settings are for the skimmer. It is currently sitting 8 inches deep in the sump, the inlet is two full turns from closed, and the wedge pipe is about half closed. The top of the bubbles are about halfway up the neck of the collection cup. Are these parameters where I should be? It is currently forming extremely light green skimmate.

I would assume that Vertex is making the pinwheel very similar to what Royal-Exclusiv made it, but I can't confirm that.

Your settings are really good that you have now, so just let it do it's thing and you'll be just fine.

Any photos yet???

Jeremy, I currently own a Royal-exclusiv vertex 200. I have added a 60g tank to my entire system. So the system includes a 180g+75 gallon fuge+75 gallon sump+60g. The gross volume is almost 400g and net water volume is about 250g. It is a medium bioload system. Should I be upgrading the skimmer?

think i got this baby dialed in. took little over two weeks to break in, but seems to pull out some nasty dark stuff now. this is after 2 days...
