Royal Gramma Hiding Out

When we first got our Royal Gramma ( 4-5 months ago) it would hang out in a cave most of the time but would come out every time I fed the tank. Now I go days without ever seeing it. It is alive, and looks ok from what I can see when I find its hide out of the day and actually get a glimpse of it. It never used to eat at night and I do not see it eat now during the days. Everything else in my tank is doing great. All params are good etc.. etc..
Is this uncommon?

Royal Grammas tend to hide out at times. Something may have spooked it; one of its tankmates may have gotten a little too close. Keep an eye on him and if he is eating, all should be good.

I have had a Royal for a couple years now and have experienced contrasting behavior at times. For the past year it seemed almost dead, barely moving and just laying up against some rocks hiding. Use to see it quite active. Now I have relocated it and all previous tank mates into a bigger reef tank and it has settled in OK but still hangs low in a cave most of time. Nice colors but would like to see it more often.

Every time I ever had a single specimen they would do the same thing, but they never thrived and eventually died (happened twice). This time, I purchased four small ones at the same time. I put a piece of rock from my sump in the qt and they settled in quite nicely. After a month, they were always together and playfully chasing each other around. They now do the very same thing in the dt (187g) even after some serious growing. They are active, up front and center. They each have their own little area but spend a lot of time in twos, threes and even all four together. They don't seem to bother any of the other fish but tend to get bullied a little by the clown fish and yellow tang, who are thick as thieves, often times doing a little tag team routine to chase the Royals. The largest entertains my wife by grabbing snails and hermit crabs in it's mouth and tossing them out of his large cave. He doesn't hurt them, just evicts them.

At first i had mine in a 29 gallon and it stayed in caves and crannies must of the time but now since ive upgraded to a 75 its one of my favorites. Its always out and active during the day and at night it goes to its cave.

I have a royal gramma and it does the same thing.the guy at the lfs even told me when I bought it that some people don't like them because they hide too much. It's
