Royal Gramma's

Vid done but when the cam on my phone is close to the tank the RGs think food and they take little notice of one another. Here they are anyway.

Royal gramma are among the most attractive and easy to keep marine fish IMO. I love the way they get upside down to hide in holes in rocks. I haven't had any for a while but will add a few as soon as I trap out my group of 5 pajama cardinals

Quick update, Both RGs continue to do well and spend a lot of the time together. However one does disapper into the reefscape from time to time and I suspect there is a nest deep within. They continue to grow and I am sure they are breeding within my reefscape although to confirm it I would have to part destroy my reef and I am not about to do that.

I moved my trio from the sump to the main tank about a week ago.
By now they have settled all in the same corner and are out a lot.

very interesting! I'm upgrading my display to a 560 right now and currently debating what fish to try out as a harem. Anthias, RG, or Bangai Cardinal. not a fan of Cardinal fish.. Anthias are cool but common. RG seem like a cool experiment.

do you guys have a good source on getting baby RG?

Banggai cardinal will not form a group in a tank. You will get a pair which then kills off the extras.

Anthias have their downsides as well, above all the frequent feedings they need.

Grammas are rather easy fish and if you start with very small ones it should also not be too hard to build a group. The key is also to have the right type of rock work: grammas prefer tall, vertical walls or overhangs with enough holes to retreat into in case of danger.

The one thing about Royal Gramma is their color. Unless you feed them with variety, they will loose their brilliant purple color. The will breed in your tank. Initially they will only eat frozen, given time, mot will eat flakes also which really help them keeping their color.

By now my regals almost prefer pellets and flakes over frozen food. The grammas are still learning ...
