Royal pencil wrasse and Exquisite fairy wrasse

Couple questions with the Royal pencil wrasse (Pseudojuloides severnsi) and Exquisite fairy wrasse (Cirrhilabrus exquisitus).

1. First off, are these fish very hearty? One more so than the other?

2. Any certain things I should watch for in getting them to acclimate initially?

3. Would they coexist in a 55 gallon tank together well? I have always heard that fairy wrasses were fairly passive and could be kept with other fish when introduced together (generally speaking).


Lastly, they would be kept a yellow corris wrasse as well, but I am fairly confident all the fish are fairly passive wrasses and somewhat reef safe providing the first two in my topic can coexist.

I don't think you will have a problem with those two fish getting along, but the exquistie is a lot more hardy than the pencil wrasse is. Also, you may have some issues with the yellow coris wrasse if he is established prior to either of these two wrasses, especially in a 55 gallon tank.

Also realize that the male exquisite wrasse will lose a lot of his vibrant coloration if there are no females or other fairy wrasses present. Colors will become more muted, much like the female coloration.

I agree. Two note: pencil wrasses are prolific jumpers, and some fairy wrasses are somewhat passive but some are very aggressive.

I culture copepods - mine did well for about 3 months and then just withered away and disappeared.
