since no one responded on my thread, ill post here, haha.

what do yall think of having a rock rubble substrate instead of live sand, im thinking of setting up a shallow rimless tank with sps, hopefully adding a MP60 along with my mp40, so sand would not work. over time hopefully it will color over and the sps would grow also. all dry rock too.

also where would i get cheap rubble rock, it seems expensive the one or 2 places i see it.

rock rubble is cool... gets all kinds of microfauna living in it....but eventually you get lots of detritus that settles at the bottom of the rubble and is really hard to remove without removing all the rubble.

Best place to get it is the local fish stores. Pull out all the broken bits and rubble from thier live rock tanks.

true but it should be easy to move around to stir up, plus if there is little to no fish plus 10,000+ gph flow from a couple of vortechs, im sure less would settle than normal. also i was thinking of switching bulbs from 10k to 20k every 6-10 months, white for growth, blue for color up. my goal here is sortof a frag tank/goodlooking natural display tank at the same time.

I would agree on hat ryan said. Also you can break up bigger pieces to make your rubble. I would just go bare bottom if it is a frag tank and have a nice fuge with some LR in it. And if you know SPS they love fish pop so i would be getting fish as well. Thanks

Dirtiest fish? Have you meet my girlfriend? lol Anyways i would select fish that are beneficial such as some wrasses to eat AEFW and other pest. Also some tangs for algae control that are apart of the bristletooth family. But SPS needs fish poop and very clean and stable water conditions. Glad you are starting out with a big tank. Are you going to set up frag racks though?

well the plan is for hopefully before x mas time. mp60 aint cheap. but no im thinking of small rock pieces over rock rubble. have frags everywhere, but have a natural look to a frag tank, meaning no racks, and preferably not a bare bottom not a fan for some reason. some different looking kind of thing you know.
