Does anyone have a problem with rusting of their Evil Par 38's. I have had mine for three months and the silver ones are rusting. The white ones are ok. Does anyone else have this problem.

I've had one silver one for about 6+ months and it's rust-free. It's about 12" above the water.

I am about 5 inches off the water with 80 degree optics. My current mh fixture on the main tank is 4 inches off the water and has no hints of rust and I have had it a year.

Actually I just received an email back from nanotuners. It reads....

5" is what your issue is. The issue is that the lamps aren't stainless steel
or some other type of corrosion-resistant material. The fins on the painted
units are the same thing as the unpainted units. You won't see the issues on
the painted portions of the lamp, but the fins will still be susceptible.

Mine did rust, but it was due to being placed in a poorly ventilated sump. I removed it after about a year as I was concerned about rust from the light falling into the tank.

I have tall ceilings in my basement and good flow. I think the problem is "The issue is that the lamps aren't stainless steel or some other type of corrosion-resistant material". So basically it is the worst item to have near water! My reefkoi evolution 120w shows no signs of rust in the same area. It sounds like 10 inches or more away will stop the issue. I am getting great growth of coral so I am not changing anything. Can't I spray the fins with krylon paint?
