i just bought S. gigantea) and notice it was releasing milky liquid and it been in my tank 2 days now and at night it grows nice but once my lights turn on it stays mid size i have wave point T5 and were i bought it it was under t5 but light wore way higher up mine are a lot lower so dont now if this can be the cause or if its still adjusting to the water or lights plus mouth is close and its purple and brown so i now it still has zooxanthellae nitrites at 0 and ph 8.4 and salt .24 so dont now?
whats the milky stuff?

What I've noticed, I've seen when I get a new gig, if the first few days it looks like it's "smoking" or has "milky stuff" coming out, it's internally melting. I've never been able to have one recover from that condition, not to say it can't happen, but I've never been able to "revive" one from internally "melting". It's never affected other nems in the tank as it melts though. I also have 250+ gallons of water. Good luck, but sounds to me like it's "dead nem smokin' ".

I'd be interested to hear of anyone being able to keep one, after seeing it "smoking", or releasing "milky stuff" after getting one.

I agree with Taylor. I hope this is not the case.

I purchase a Gbta and within a week it started to emit a milky white smoke and covered the whole tank it triple its size and was all stretched out. It has since did it twice, but next day it was back to normal. I think it was the stress from having its foot slowly peel off the glass at the LFS and to its new home. It been four month and have not done its smoke show since.

I think it's stress induced spawning. I have had 2 haddonis do this during the first week of acclimation. Both deflated and had gaping mouths afterwards, one made it and one did not. :(

whats crazy when lights are off it looks great like it fills up with water but once my t5 kick on it chokes plus it hosting snowflakes so should i wait and C whats the outcome or should it be removed look at pics

Did you try the "screen method" during acclimation? Your lights may be too intense and killing it. What some have suggested (and I believe it to be good practice) is to lay three nylon window screens over the tank to cut down the light. Each week, you remove one of the screens.

ill try that method i did something close to that i used a diffuser but hopfully it pull through
