S.Haddoni won't stop moving???

My Haddoni won't stop moving in my tank. It has one spot in the tank where it goes in one direction then back to it's spot and 12" in the other direction. The only guess I have is that it is too big and doesn't have enough room to spread out.

The anemone is 18" or larger across. The tank is a 93 cube. I'm using an ASM G2 skimmer, MP40 powerhead, 2 AI SOL Blues, JBJ ATO, Via Aqua Titanium heater, and that's it for equipment. My parameters aren't ideal bu they're honest, I keep my parameters as follows.

Temp 79F
Salinity 1.026
Calcium 400-420
Alk 8-9
Mag 1250-1300
Nitrate (less than 10)
Nitrite/Ammonia 0
Phosphates - Don't know but don't have any algae

Anemone history - This has been in captivity for almost two years (it will be two years in February). I bought the anemone from the original owner in February of 2012 so I've had it 9 months. The tank it came out was a 180 gallon tank with 400 watt metal halides. The nitrates were high and alk was always low. It only moved one time in that tank and it was shortly after introducing it to the tank.

OK, so sorry for the long write up but I wanted to give as many details as I could.

Here is a picture of the nem in question:

Is it possible its getting too much flow? I've read that they prefer gentle flow over them but not enough to really lift the edges. That also doesn't look like much space for it to stretch out before going up the rocks. Beautiful nem though

Maybe try giving him more open sand. I have two, one likes being up against the rocks but the other one will not touch a rock and if it does it will re position itself. It looks pretty good. Maybe it is getting acclimated to LEDs. Big difference in MH and LED. Its tentacles look thin. Do you feed it? Remember there are natural predators. They like meaty foods. I'm just throwing many variables out there...Hopefully it settles down for you. Looks good in your LPS tank.

I'm considering re-aquascaping the tank so give it a more open area. The picture I posted was in it's original spot, I'll post a pic of where it is now when the lights come on.

I think the acclimation period is over, it's been under LED's since at least February/March.

I do feed it but not that often, maybe once every other week. Having said that though it gets food several times a week that it catches in the water column during feeding. I purposely let the powerhead run when I first start feeding to move the food around then shut it off.

As far as the tentacles go I don't think they're thin, I'm thinking it's just the picture. Here is a closer picture I took of the porcelain crab and you can see them close up.

How often do you feed that anenome? Haddoni will eat clown fish . A.Clarki will feed Haddoni to keep it from eating them. feed that anenome small amounts every coulpe of days. I feed mine 4to 5 times a week everything from mysis shrimp, small chopped clam and table shrimp and even cyclopeze. most anenomes willl travel when their needs arent being met waterflow ,lighting and feeding are reasons anenomes move about.

On my particular Haddoni, I would consider this to be thin but its because its dawn. I usually can not see any gap between the tentacles. I blast him will LEDs and he loves it. This is dawn so not so tightly packed.

Hi, here's my 2 cent.

1) I think you may have to much flow, my haddoni likes it very
low, just enough to ruffle it's edges I have 2 mp40's on my tank and only them at
about 15%

2) I have read they like it a little warmer, I keep my tank at 82

3) I also think your nem looks crowded, my nem likes to really stretch out

4) Yes I agree, feed it more.

5) I know you are running leds but at what %. I have led's also but my tank is only
17" deep so it get blasted pretty good. My nem also came from a tank running 10 t5's and sat about 12" under them. They really seem to like a lot of light.

good luck
