Sabae Clowns and a host.

I have a pair of sabae clowns, and at one point would like to attempt to get a host anemone for them, my LFS told me that the only anemone that will host them is a Sabae anemone.

Is this true?

I know they wanna live in a host sometime soon cause they have already tried to Feed a mushroom, that is just as big as one of the Sabae's, its rather funny to watch her feed the shroom pieces of flake.

I am unfamiliar with the common name of 'sabae' clown but most clowns have more than one natural host. Do you have a pic of your clowns or happen to know the latin name?

It's not uncommon for most species to take to various un-natural hosts in captivity, the only thing is it may take months for it to happen (if at all).

i guess it would help if i spelt it right.

Its Sebae, now do you know what im talking about?

Aren't most of the clownfish sold as "sebaes" actually A. clarkii?

IIRC, Clark's are the only species of clownfish found in every species of hosting anemone, in which case a BTA (captive-cloned would be preferable) would be pretty easy to obtain and a natural host for your fish.

im going to take some pictures right now and ill upload them so we can decide what clowns i have, i was told by the LFS that i bought them from that they were both Sebae

This is the best pic of the black sebae that i could get

That's not a sebae. It's a clarkii. A. sebae is more closly related to A. polymnus (saddleback) Even if it was a sebae anemonefish, your LFS is still wrong. A. sebae does not use any of the anemones commonly referred to as "sebae" for a host. Their only natural host is S. haddoni. The fish you have will use any of the host species as a host.

Hang on..... Can you post another pic of the first fish? The second one is clarkii. The first one????? We need a better pic.

these are all taken with the flash on.

here's the lil guy he's like a black/deep brown.

You have a pair of A. clarkii. They are the only species of clown that will accept all hosting species of anemone, they are anemone whores :D

sometimes i dont get how LFS's can get away with somethings. I work at bestbuy. The way i see it if someone came in looking for a product they've never seen and i say hey this is an HP computer and they get home to find out a month later its actually an Acer than i would feel like they dont actually care what they are selling and what people get.

atleast i know they are anemone whores. would 96watts of PC light be good for an anemone? on a 20gall tall?

IMO, you don't have the ideal lighting for an anemone. I'm assuming some of the 96W of PC is actnic (which is useless in terms of PAR and what would benefit the nem). You also have a small water volume so most species would grow too large your system and/or cause water quality issues. You should get away with a BTA clone if you upgrade your lighting.

BTA (E. quadricolor) will be fine in a 20gal High and 96wt of PC lighting. It will likely roam around a bit, so make sure heaters, filter intakes, etc., are shielded properly.

I have only the sebae for my clowns that is what the lfs told me to use and my clowns went for it right away and have not left and when I get to close to there anemone they get mad and bit me and that really hurts
