Sad Day at our house.

It's a sad day here at our house. We had to put one of our dogs to sleep. She became extremely ill and almost died at the vet's this afternoon. We (Vet and me) think that she had a heart attack and congestive heart failure. Her heart was not beating right after that. She's been acting very lathargic for a couple of days, not eating, not walking around and when she stood she would collapse after a couple of minutes. Started hiding under the TV, which is where she used to hide when we first got her 7 years ago. She was 9 years old. NOT the one we thought we would have lost first. She actually was our youngest one. The other three are 15, 13, and 11.

It's like losing one of your children. Luckily Dan for some reason came home early today from work so he was able to take her to the vet's with me.

So sorry for your loss. You really did her a favor by not being selfish and making her suffer so you wouldn't be hurt. You did the right thing.

Sorry to hear that Suz , We had to put our portugese water spaniel down last month he was 12 he had cancer ,, we called him bear because he looked like a bear .. I sympathize with you.:(

I'm very sorry for your loss. Mine is 11 months old and already I get choked up just thinking about the day I'll have to go through that with him.

My aunt finds it helpful to keep mementos from their youthful days of either a favorite toy or their well worn collar. She's had dogs for quite a while and has quite the collection now. It never does get any easier but the experience of having them in your life is well worth it.

It's hard. Think of the good times. They outnumber those few moments ten thousandfold.

Sorry to hear about the loss. My girl is only 2, but I don't know what I would do with out her. as SK8r said, just remember the good times, and know she will always live in your heart.

Men aren't supposed to cry. So they say. So why did I cry like a baby when I buried the first dog my wife and I had? Why am I crying as I type this? Maybe it's the unconditional love, the totally fearless sense of watching out for you, or maybe it's just the way they roll over and ask for a good belly-scratch. I dunno. Just hang on to all the memories. Good and bad, they're all precious and unique.

i'm sorry to hear of ur loss...
just think, u at least got to say goodbye first...
some cases u dont even get that...

just remember the good times :)

Very sorry to hear about your dog Suzy. I sure she had a wonderful life being part of your family and that's what matters. All of the happy memories with her are still there for you.

sorry to hear about your dog as well.

I've had to put down one of my dogs, and the other past away just two years ago. it's definately one of the hardest thinigs, and even being a dog doesn't change the fact that they're as special to you as children.

you have a guardian angel looking over you and your family now =) feel better soon!

Thank you for your words of kindness. We both realize that she is now with another of our dogs we lost 8 1/2 years ago. We went out the next day and got her to replace the one we lost. Not going to do that this time. It was sad this morning to hear Cassandra one of my other dogs cry for her. They always were carried down the stairs together in my arms. The Vet made a plaster of paris print of her paw for us. Nice gesture, plus I have her collar and tags. We had special name tags made for all the dogs. I'll do a shadow box with these items plus her picture.
