I've decided to transform my 120g into a macro algae/soft coral dominated reef once I set it up in my new apartment as I want it to be simpler and more self sufficient. Of course this probably means no tangs, but it may broaden the horizon for butterflies and angels. I've always loved the Saddleback Butterflyfish (Chaetodon ephippium) but am fully aware of their reputation to massacre a reef tank, however in this new tank it's really just going to be decorative macro algae, leather corals, some zoanthids, a dozen or so photosynthetic gorgonians, and maybe a derasa clam or 2 on the sandbed. Would much of this be at risk if I were to add this species? I also plan on adding a yellow longnose butterfly (Forcipiger flavissimus), which should coexist with the saddleback just fine. I may add a female bellus angel down the line, but for now those 2 will probably end up being the only large fish in the system, with mainly benign damsels, basslets, jawfish, filefish, and blennies compromising the rest of the list. So have you ever tried a saddleback? Any other notes on their care would be greatly appreciated as well
