okay, i've spent alot of time studying a picture of a male and a female, so does it have to do with the rostral plate? the thing above their eyes if i'm not mistaken!

I thought about that, but I didn't think that would be discernible from 10 feet away.

It wouldn't be the color on the antennal scale would it?

Nope, already asked...lol.

Not the pleopods and it is not enough to just name a body part. You have to tell me how the males and females differ.

Roy

haha, problem is, i can't find a good source online for comparison pics of a male and a female, that would help us all alot!

and when i referred to the Rostral Plate, it looked like the Male's plate extended out more

lol you should just tell us Dr. Roy, it would make things much easier lol

speaking of peacocks im getting weird behavior from mine, sorry to hijack the thread, but she will go on a cycle of eating strong for two days then not eating for more then a week, eating strong for a few days then not eating for a week, i have had her for 3 months and her previous owner had her for about 6, i still have yet to see any molt and the previous owner said that she never molted for them, she is only about 4" long and i would of expected a molt by now, i am saying this is weird behavior because when i first got her, her first month with me she did nothing but eat about 2 turbo snails a day with an emerald crab every few days, now she wont touch any crabs or snails and all she wants is frozen food, she also wont leave her burrow, i put some rubble in the tank for her and she did move it in place but wont close up her burrow, also her color has changed drastically from being a dark green to now being a lighter green, but yet i have found not one bit of evidence that there was a molt in the tank, could you help me out, this just seems that its not any type of the behavior that she used to have, if you need any more info i can PM it to you!

my guess is that the entire raptorial appendage is red in females and its green in males?

With that much color change, it usually means a molt. I had a small O. scyllarus change color on me today and sure enough, when digging around I found bits of the molt. When I checked the feeding records, she did not eat the past two days.

The sexual dimorphism has nothing to do with the length of the rostrum or the color of the raptorial appendages.

Roy

i really hope she molted but like i said i have found no evidence of a molt, im sure i would of at least found something but i didnt find a thing, maybe 80 lbs of sand was a little over kill in the 40G breeder lol, i will look again, that will help ease my mind but its still not explaining her eat habits or lack of them

Is it the presence of the black dots in the eyes?

Dr. Roy, it would help greatly if you could find us pictures of male/female to compare :)

is it the color of the legs? my female has distinct red maxillipeds, and dark red perieopods. in some pictures, i see the males have greenish legs, and females have reddish legs.
