only sexually mature males (> 12 cm) have linearly polarized red/clear uropod spines. In females and juvenile males, the spines are non-polarized and red. I cheated...got the info off your PowerPoint presentation...but in my own defense, the spines are actually what I was referring to when I suggested the "scales" on the uropods of the males. I just didn't know what they were called.
