Salt addiction at its worst...

It was by right, an evening like any other. Or so at first it seemed. Little did I know that I would be forever changed by that one fateful evening not so long ago...

The sun had long set over the large oaks shrouding my personal haven where I had retreated tiredly to for the evening, much like I had many evenings before this one. The darkness of night had begun to creep out of the shadows to chase away the light of day into hiding in their perpetual game of hide and seek. The air was still pleasantly warm from the late summer heat, and an evening breeze had just picked up along the southwest, bringing with it promises of a deliciously cool night. The faint sound of crickets could be heard in the distance as they roused the symphony for yet another encore performance. The room, or my office as I referred to it to sound important when speaking amongst friends was rather quaint, sparsely decorated, with deep chocolate brown walls and lightly worn carpets high up on the third floor with an incredible view of the Japanese maples below that had just began to realize fall was approaching and had hurriedly dressed their canopies with slight crimson hue to mark the important occasion. The place was dimly lit with an overhead fluorescent that had long ago lost its brilliance and now had resigned itself to struggle each day to simply stay lit. It had a sad appeal that few could appreciate, but like an old hound that never loses faith or loyalty in its master we have spent many of hours together so to me it was home.

As I sat in my black leather chair, looking intently at the portal before me, the oversized computer screen sitting atop a well worn dark mahogany office desk stared back at me with the soft tones of the Drs Foster and Smith website. The warm colors of the display washed over my face, seducing me to indulge in its empty promises of endless pleasure should I give in to its will. All I had to do was click one simple little button and the world of today with all its problems would be cast away and replaced by the promises of a new tomorrow. One button, that’s all it would take. So deceptively innocent and small this button, yet it held incredible power that could instantly command the great wheels of commerce to be set into motion in an instant. Well oiled cogs would churn flawlessly as they have done tirelessly before, and I would be delivered from a mere mortal to something unbelievably better... with just one button. It beckons me, pulls at the fiber of my soul to give myself freely to its devices.

My right hand motions the mouse and the screen instantly obeys, seemingly in league with the website, as if forces unseen eagerly propel me down a path that would be my destiny. "What on earth would I do with all of it?" was the last fading voice of logic as it gasped its last breath and was quickly drowned out by the sweet nothings whispering in my ear that bid me forth. One simple innocent little button…

I can only resist momentarily as a dazed expression fills my face and I lose all hope of turning back. Poised, as if contemplating terminating life support on a terminally ill patient, my hand hovers over the mouse and my fate is all but inevitable. My vision began to narrow, my awareness of all else fades. The crickets chorus can no longer be heard, and the overhead light dims even further as the world around me slowly dissolves into a gray mist. There would be no turning back, no way to go back. There we were the button and I... our fates intertwined as if it were foretold when the world was born. My destiny awaits...

CLICK

Heh, so with that, I ordered a ton of salt - literally 2000lbs of salt. I figured what the heck, I need lots o salt, and the deal was great. Probably have a bit more than I can use right now, but thought I would share in the insanity. Have you made it to the 1 ton salt club yet? Ha! :D A flare for the overdramatic, I know, just thought I would provide a little levity given the recent tone as of late.

Lot of salt... for the workshop?

-or- one hell of a serious salt addiction problem. :D My name is MrMikeB, and I too am addicted to reef salt. This is my cry for help...

Seriously though, its for the aquaculture facility - a bit premature than I had planned, but I had to jump on the deal when the getting was still good. Did you know shipping was a cool $20?!

Hey, if decide to start selling I'd rather buy my RC locally than from Dr F&S.

= )

I think the local LFS sells these buckets already. I am not sure their pricing, but definitely something to look into. I have no intentions on getting into the salt biz (if there is ever such a thing). At the very least, MARS can count on a couple donations for the raffle. Not a bad prize, eh?

It beckons me, pulls at the finger of my soul

I love that quote function... :D

What a very well written and entertaining beginning to a novel. I was on the edge of my seat.

I had a similar experience (on a smaller scale) last year. I still have 5 buckets left.

um...I need salt...
Seriously, if you decide to part with a few buckets, I will buy one.

Awesome order. How was it shipped?

I haven't found one that carries buckets in the south side. I'm guessing nobody comes close to Dr F&S at 34.99 each and $12 shipping for 3 buckets.

As much as I want to support the LFS, I need to have enough money to buy their fish, so salt gets bought online.

They had it freight shipped in on pallets. Needless to say I do not have a forklift and the delivery guy was in his 60s with a bad back. Nothing like hefting 40 buckets off a big rig that has no ramp to get your appetite worked up. I literally depallteized (is that even a word?)them on the truck and carried carried them off. Who needs a gym?!

I typically do not like to sell consumable items (new) that the LFS carry as it cuts into their operations and potential sales.
