Coralife is cheap ,cal and mag are about the same comapred to what ur using but the alks is bumped up to almost 10 so that might work for u

Jake,

After reading back a while, about comparing salt mixes, it seems most name brand salt mixes are just fine for the reef. As you say, some are short in some trace minerals and others have different trace measurements for trace, etc.

What I do, is buy salt in bulk on sale, such as on MR, when one guy sells, this stuff for a nice price. I then, measure trace elements in bucket of clean salt water and add trace salt to water change mix as necessary, after comparing what's in my tank parms.

However, I did read, that one salt mix had bad quality control a while back, and was not consistent in the mix, and then, was corrected.

So all in all, not sure it pays to get a salt mix with heavy trace elements. For me, I just add what is necessary...

I do save a lot of money, by buying in bulk...

PS. What I do do, is whenever, I switch brands, I specifically retest clean bucket of salt water for trace parms... Usually, that is infrequent, and only after I buy another batch of buckets.

Tropic Marin Pro or Tropic Marin origanal. The mixtures are fairly consistant and it dissolves in minutes. Never had a questionable batch. Worth the $ in my opinion.

Tropic Marin Pro Reef mixes very well and will provide a ratio that doesn't require supplementation. The ESV salt also sounds promising, but that requires a little extra work.

A little extra work never hurt! I just switched to ESV. It was easy to mix.

Tropic marin all the way. I have tried almost all and none of them have worked as great as Tropic Marin. Best on the market in my eyes. Worth every single penny.

I think i have used almost all salt mixes ever made over the last 12 years, this new tank i set up with cprolife,, hated it, I have since chaned to Neo Marine by brightwell auatics so far i think it's the best salt i ever used.

do you KNOW who carry it eh ? which LFS :)

Thanks!

I havent seen D-D at any LFS's at all, if you are looking for a high quality salt I would look into Tropic Marin Pro. I'm actually switching to this myself after this last bucket of oceanic is done. I'm going to be starting ZEOvit though so thats my reasoning.

using I/O here ...I just buy the mag and cal in bulk to bump it up and still cheaper to use than the other brands..works for me
