I would like to get help from the members on RC, to determine which brand of synthetic sea salt is best and why. What makes a particular brand more desirable then the next? Are Pro brands better than the regular brand? Or, is it just brand loyalty.

The results to this poll will be used in an upcoming article.

Thank you all for participating.

I use Reef Crystals. I think it's more personal preference/pricing than anything...for the most part.

I did a lot of research on this and it seems to be like the stock market....sometimes the group likes Instant Ocean...other times the group likes Reef Crystals. Each time one is the favorite there are excuses like "more accurately reflects true to life" or one suppliments one particular ingredient better over the other. Because of this, I've just gone with the IO simply because it is about $5 cheaper and no one has been able to convince me that it is any better or worse than Reef Crystals....'course...I'm still just cycling my tank, so what the heck do I know. :)

I just switched from Reef crystals to Brightwell Neomarine salt mix. I just made the switch, but so far I like it. It's easy to mix and the numbers are back on track from the problems I was having with reef crystals. I started with IO on and used it for about 2 years before I started my reef tanks and I used reef crystals for almost 8 years. I never had a problem with reef crystals until this past year.

Just mixed up my first batch of Salinity. Switched from Seachem Reef, so I voted Others...

I'm letting it mix up for a while to see what parameters I get.

I like seachem reef. I get well over 1500 mag and 500 cal from a sg of 1.026, I get an alk level of 9, and it mixes up nicely.

I haven't voted yet, because, well...I'm not sure how I should vote. Which salt I use, or which salt I think is the best?

I've been using RC for the last year or so. But I just got 400 gallons of IO. The alk is too high in the RC for my tastes, so I've switch over to IO which still mixes a little high on the alk, but is lower on the Ca, so I can dose to bring up the Ca, and drop the alk (Opposed to the RC, which was high on the alk & Ca)

With all that said, if I have my choice, I'd probably go with TMPR or D&D's H2Ocean, but both of those are a bit too rich for my blood at this point.

I collect my own salt water from the ocean because it closely mimics water found in the ocean.

I like the H2ocean although RC has been good for me and i did well with red sea pro. Sticking with the dd h2ocean for now though
