exactly what I want to upgrade to!!!
samuell that's a sweet setup, looks like you bought a new tank?
man you went all out with premium stuff...lights, tank and all

good luck with the tank, and post pics for updates!

nicE! very clean. ill be following this.
+1. Very clean.
Thank you guys for the generous compliments. Ive been researching for over 6 months to get this tank right the first time.

Wow super sleek setup! Where did you get the money for all that? I thought you were a starving student.:spin1:
Thanks Richard. Ive been taking advantage of billmelater :). The light and half the tank is on credit. Lol. the powerheads(minus 1x mp10) and dosers are from my previous setup.
Since you did such a good job with your 50 cube, I decided to give a shot to the 40 long, which is essentially a 40 breeder. Eddie told me next year, the 40 long will disappear and will be replaced by a 50 long

Looking good. Seems you've bought all the high end stuff. Do it right the first time. :)
Thanks Mike, also thanks again for that large red planet colony. Cant wait to place it in this tank

I bought the tank, stand, lamptree, sump, and led tube from cadlights, everything else is a mix of higher end equipment. Thank you for the kind words. Will do my best to update. I just finished plumbing and am starting to organize stuff in the sump. I will post pics soon.

hey sam, I'm curious what's the dimension of the skimmer chamber in that sump? I'm wondering if skimmer with bigger capacity would fit in there

Why would you want to put a skimmer with higher capacity in that sump? That skimmer is already rated for 160g.:bounce1:

I don't know the dimension of the sump, it's a darn nice looking one at that, and I was looking at his setup and was curious if the sump could be used for further upgrade from 40g to 90 or whatever... i was curious

back to sam's tank now...

Wait... he didn't post pics of his sump... are you talking about his display tank?

Oh whoa billmelater! I just realized they have that for marinedepot now. Haha wow that's a good idea. Wish they had that when I was setting up my tank.

You setup looks awesome. Looking forward to seeing your tank develop!

Sweet setup bro. Now you just need some sps in there....:D

Thanks James. I think some of your sps might look good in here. :) roll on you bears!

Good start with nice products.
Thanks Neal. Hope I can finish this project right

Nice....great design!!!!
Thank you waterman. Trying my best

Hey craftyfish. I asked eddie to make a custom sump for me which increases the skimmer chamber to 9’’ long by 8’’ wide (sump is 8’’ x27’’) to fit the swc 160 and also got rid of the media chamber to make the refugium longer. Other modifications include making the water level in the skimmer chamber around 8.75’’ to maximize skimmer performance. The skimmer was also upgraded with a modified atman impeller.

Very nice Sam, I'm looking forward to your build.
Thanks Ryan. Im just trying to grow some sps colonies like you. :)

back to sam's tank now...

sump is kinda small (8’’ x 27’’) but plenty for this 40g tank. I can fit the skimmer, I have a nice sized refugium, and also a big enough chamber for my 1260 eheim return.

Pics to follow…

here is the plumbing done and the sump laid out...

another pic of the sump, now you can see the brs doser brackets mounted to the left side of the cabinet...
