Sandbed ideas

So i need some ideas for sand to use on the 40 build.

I would like something not too fine so its not blowing all over the place.

My 29g has crushed coral in it and i definetly don't want to use that in the 40. When i put up the 29 i thought it looked good but now I don't like it. LOL

I hate sand, it's a gigantic PITA, but I really prefer the look of it. I use just a dusting of Carib Sea's special seafloor grade reef aragonite sand. Kinda the best of many evils. It's pretty large so it doesn't blow around like sugar fine sand (but that's not an absolute, I get plenty of bare spots because the sandbed is so shallow), but still small enough to be gentle on the bodies and gills of burrowing/sifting fishes.

my aquarium is half BB half SSB. When I took the vac to the (little bit of) sandbed I have, the water that went into the waste bucket was muddy brown.
That means that an UNBELIEVABLE AMOUNT of critter poo can hide in very little sand.

What are the benefits of keeping a sand or large pellet bed? Just to stabilize pH? I know Arc uses coarse reactor media, an idea I liked.

Can always stick some sand in a small tray if you need it for a burrowing fish
