Sargassum Trigger Questions.

I know a few of you have some in your reef tanks. My questions are.

How agressive are they with tank mates?

My fishes in my 110g are:

2 Ocellaris Clowns
1 powder blue tang
1 purple pseudo
couple green reef chromis's
bicolor blenny
couple neon gobies
Alot of inverts(cleaner shrimp, snails, blue legged hermits)

How hardy are they? I heard they were extremley shy.

Are they 100% reef safe or are they a hit and miss like most Angels/Triggers?

How big do they get? I see them at the LFS as small as 3 inches to 5 inches.

Thanks guys.

Sam

they are pretty mellow, about the same as bluethroats. You're lucky to see them around 3'' they're usually collected a bit bigger than that. I've put them in several reef tanks where they dont seem to bother anything, and they were about 6''.

Hey Sam. I have one currently in my 270 and have had one previously (which I sold when I re-did my tank) for about two years. They are fairly shy at first, but they do get more brash as they become used to you and their tankmates. Mine now eats raw shrimp out of my hand and I actually have to mind him when I have my hands in the tank as he will nip at me (thinking my fingers are food of course).

They are completely "reef-safe" IME, on the same level as cross-hatches and blue-throats, and "safer" IME than nigers or pink-tails. They have great personalities, don't nip or harass other fish or pick on inverts, shrimp, snails, etc.

Here's a pic of mine (about 4-5"). You might have seen him when you were over a few weeks ago.

See below. Couldn't get the picture to post...?

You're welcome to come over and check him out for a while if you wish. Juan can get them for you at Rainbow for about $60 for a small one (3-4") which is very reasonable. I believe they get to be about 9-10" full grown in the wild.

triggers now hugh Sam...?

Naw just want to make sure this guy will be ok. I think its time for my tank to settle in, and I dont want to add anything Im going to regret like I always do. For crying out loud!!! My 110g is 8 months with no sps in yet:mad2:  Ive just messing around the past 2 years with propagating anemones and collecting clownfish...But I want to grow some corals now.

Cool. Looks good so far...

Thanks Gisho. Ill be stopping by your house soon. Glad yours came out into the open. Just going to let the kalk system run a little longer before I throw in some SPS.

Freddy if you read this I want to know how yours is doing. I know you just got him a couple weeks ago...Hows he doing in the reef?

Thanks

Sam

As far as know, they are the safest for reefs. Millenium pets has a really nice one,, about 4" has been there for a few weeks so it is healthy. My pinktail trigger is in FOWLR tank, so I couldn't tell you if he'll tear anything up, there is hermit crabs in there but he doesn't bother them, alot of personality, though. Bit my finger last week. He's going in my 100 gallon that I'm setting up now.

He's asking $80, but I'm sure I can get you a much better price. I buy alot of stuff form this guy, even from when I used to be into reptiles.
