Savko Alert!!!!!!!!!

Shoot! I just placed my first order there last Friday. Hope they've learned their lesson and keep my card safe!

Frankly, I think this could happen to any online vendor. Scammers just keep getting more sophisticated. I've ordered from them in the past and I'm sure I will again. I would hold off for awhile (a couple months maybe) to give them time to fix the system though.

This should no longer be a problem. I also had my information stolen from their website (it got hacked) a couple months ago. I emailed them and got a response from the company's president. He stated they knew about the problem and had made the appropriate fixes and are working to improve it further.

I would not look for a new website. If anything you could use their website to pick the parts and then phone order them. But I believe they should be secure by now. Here's the email I got back from them:
This was sent to me september 13th of this year.

Mr. Brown,

Thank you for your email. Let me first start off by saying how much we appreciate your business, as we have strived to make sure our internet clients receive the best service possible.

We just found out that we did have a site break in. Once we were aware of the site break in, we were able to make immediate changes to the Savko web page to insure its security. I do apologize, as the business that I have been a part of for so long and our web page that has been operating for many years, has had this break in and a possible reflection on our credibility. We will consistently be working on this issue to make sure this does not happen in the future.

I thank you for your time and interest. If it is okay with you, I would like to stay in touch to keep you informed on what we find out and the steps we are taking to insure the security of the site.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or other concerns that I could help address.

Sincerely,

Andrew Puskas
President

I just really want to make sure this doesn't turn into a panic mode type of thing for those who have recently ordered from their site. I made my order on their site back in August. I think anything since mid September should be safe, based on the email I got back. If you did order and you are worried, check up on your accout often to make sure there are no mysterious charges.

I just got off the phone with Andy, President of Savco. What a nice guy. He told me that they have made a number of changes in their system and that for the aver CC order the CC# would stay in their system much less than 24 hours and the longest could go up to 96 hours (long holiday weekend etc)

I really felt like this guy was very stand up about the whole situation. He could've let it go and let everyone figure it out for themselves. I have had this happen with Hotels twice. He was proactive and honorable about the whole situation. He also shelled out extra money for new PCs in the office because he was afraid of a possible trojan.

I think it's now as safe or safer than any other internet site out there now that these things have been done, and it would be a shame for a small business to suffer because of hackers. We all know they'll lose some business but why should they? He also mentioned that if you call your order in you are extra safe. He'll need your CC# for every order, internet or phone, since they don't store you numbers any longer. Just my 2 cents.
