OK.. first.. NO I did not buy it and I did not put a deposit down on it.

What do you think about it.

There were two crabs hosting in it and the tenticales were pulsing away and pulling back to the body.

IDK how long it has been there. There is another one in a few tanks down that was at least 18" across... but it looked BAD!!!

I think they just came in this weekend...

It was holding it's body up and all.

IDK what I am looking for on these guys... so I was wanting some feed back.

In my tank (180) now I have a 18: ritteri, BTA, and a dosenderious... (I can never spell it)

Thanks in advance

Interesting.. What's the color of the verracue there? Might be a gig? Would not be quite common for haddonis to be spending there time up on rock like that.

Hi,

From the pic, the nem looks fine, I would say a little bleached but other than that it looks Ok. Can you see the mouth? Is it closed tight? I see that you have a sandbed in your tank, how deep is it? Haddoni are Usually sand dwellers. Also they Usually like low flow. Do you have a place where it can stretch out 18+ inches and not touch /kill something you like? Also they are the worst when it comes to eating fish, have even been known to eat the clowns they are hosting.

It looks like you are already familiar with nems, so, if you have the space I say go for it, but be ready to pull it and QT it if it starts to go down hill. I love my Haddonis

Good luck

The pic was at a LFS close to me.

The mouth picture I deleted off my phone because of the glare from the flash, and I forgot to take another one of it. So that is the best pic I have.

I sat and watched it for about 30 minutes. It was neat to see the tenticales pull in one at a time across a wave type formation as it sat there. Then moved them right back out like a piston running in an engine.

The crab was walking over it with no issues or hesitation.

I am more worried about chemical warfare if I had my existing nems in the same tank as that one.

I was so tempted to pick it up and take it home, but I know better than impulse buy with out the proper setup/meds/space.

That's a nice looking Nem Worm. You said you took a pic of the mouth but deleted it. Was the mouth closed up? Looks to be pretty firm in the pic. I have heard of the chemical warfare but is that only among the same species or do other species trigger this response.

Regards

Neil

I would worry that the bta's and the haddoni might get into some chemical warfare. It seems to me that a large mag may get squirrley if a haddoni was put in there with it. You do have a large tank and that may make it work. But is it worth risking that beautiful mag? Your a pretty knowledgable guy and wod see stress signs before many would. I would just have a plan b to separate them. BTW it definitely looks haddoni to me.

Yeah that is what I was figuring... I would not want to risk either... or any of them... hahaha... If I had that 120 running maybe in a separate tank at least.. but not together. I think they would be all over each other.

In my experience mags and haddonis don't play nice with one another.

It can be done though. Somehow I manage it in my tank.

Newer pic, haddoni closed:

Older pic, haddoni open but slightly different location for both nems:

There are exceptions to just about everything in this hobby. With adequately large enough tanks, all host species can be mixed. In my relatively smaller systems, say around 100 gallons, it seems like these two species tend to move more and in general don't look comfortable. A mag I had for quite some time that never moved, began roaming in my tank within a couple days after adding a haddoni to a satellite tank that was plumbed into the same system. I'm not saying this is inevitable by any means just sharing experience.

Quite the tank you got there reefs4lifee!

Kinda, here's the haddoni. It would bury itself and then uproot the next day. Just never seemed comfortable.

Here's the mag that started moving all over the place shortly afterwards.

I don't have any shots of them together because they were in seperate tanks plumbed together.

Fwiw I had a similar situation in the past with two purple based mags and a large red haddoni in a 125. Same thing, established mags that began wandering after the introduction of the haddoni.

I was thinking if I got it and plumbed the tank to a common sump that the chemical markers would be in the water either way.

Hummm...

Interesting.

in my garage system, a connected tier style set up, i currently have the following species which all seem to be doing well coexisting:
3 x s.mertensii
2 x e.quadricolor
1 x s.gigantae
1 x h.malu
1 x m.doreensis

in another system that has been set up for years now i have
2 x h.magnifica
1 x h.crispa

but, to colts (winwood) observation, i have also struggled with magnificas and carpets in the same system. magnifica deflates or moves around. carpet deflates and usually the magnifica fails first.

however, even i am surprised i have been doing well with the combinations i have going right now.
