I would have to disagree with that, it's more like 10% are less or equal to what they were. If you ale inflation into account then yes a damsel would be around the same price I guess, 2 bucks in the mid 90's and now 7-8 bucks. Yellow tangs were 9 bucks in the mid 90's and now they go for as much as 60 bucks, not to mention all the other fish that have skyrocketed. The purple tang has always been around 100 bucks and I now see them going for over 200, an Achilles tang was a 30-40 dollar fish for a nice sized one, now it's well over 200 for the same sized fish. Those prices are more than just inflation. Although I think all harder to keep fish should be more expensive, that way people will think twice before buying it and less of them would be imported. Like cleaner wrasse, leapord wrasse, certain butterflies, you get the idea.
I never go by Divers Den inflated prices, in the early 90's around me Purple tangs were avaliable for 100bucks. I even scored a Black Tang for 50 bucks back then as well. It was in a tank of yellow tangs when they. Use to keep 30 of them in a tank together. I didn't know what it was at the time but I knew it wasn't a yellow tang either. At the time I thought maybe it was a super dark scopas until I did a little research. The Internet wasn't really a go to thing back then, as I didn't even have it at the time. As for divers den my LFS uses the same supplier and I can usually get the rarer fish before they are even offered to DD. that Narcosis they sold a few months back was offered to me, I couldn't justify spending 4grand on that fish and DD sold it for a grand more than I would have paid. I just snatched up a diamond tail flasher and its next stop was DD if my LFS passed.I was probably being over the top with the 90%, but demand and how fish are collected, shipped, ect all play a part.
I paid $350 for my purple tang in '93 because Red Sea stuff was uncommon back then. I paid the exact same price for a Aussie Harlequen Tusk back then that they go for today.
A lot of the common fish from Indo are the same price. A lot of the large angels are the same price. I can give you many other examples.
I paid $125 for semilarvatus BF's in the early 2000's and you can get them for that or less now.
I'm sure we can both rattle off specific examples all day and no one in this thread is going to care. My point is that the internet hype will raise prices and peoples demand for the uncommon fish.
Don't go by Diver Den pricing either..........it's not the same as buying from the LFS or other vendor outlets.

I'm sure that Diver's Den has paid for its own expansions and then some. That video of the clarions is crazy. I can't believe how many there are, and how close the quarters. The guy in the video mentions that they're amazing because they don't fight with one another. I wonder if they're docile or if they just have so many crammed in there that there's nothing to fight over.
DD doesn't want or buy every rare fish they can. They keep an interesting mix at all prices and care levels. They do a fairly rigorous QT regimen, guarantee them for two weeks, ship them from Ca to WI, then acclimate them before shipping (usually free) to you. I doubt if DD is a profit maker for DFS (IMO, it can't be), just a diversion and adding something new everyday. The daily e-mails from DD are a great way to get you looking at other LA & DFS stuff.
