"Seen" as in internet shopping, I wish I could see them in person but not where I live. Koji had a pair 3-4 yrs ago that said pair was 50k
4 years ago a pair came to B-BOX in Japan,not in Koji Wada's hand and it was sold to a HongKong aquarist('coralfriend' here) with asking price $30,000...that was the last time a pair was sold in open market...
though if a pair comes to market now,it will easily fetch $50000...

Not really, but that's great motivation to go find a few.
do you even see one in a year in Hawaii...?
i know they can be sighted in scuba depth at Johnston Atoll,but that's out of bound...
no..it was caught by a different guy...but sadly to the best of my knowledge he is paralyzed below waist nowadays...
his accident happened about a year after catching the pair...he was beaten by a moray eel while catching fish and had to rise up very quickly to escape from sharks...but got a major narcosis as a result....

That's the crazy risks involved in collecting fish at those depths. Getting bent is really easy if you are not careful. I had a similar incident take place where we were ascending from a 60 m dive and we were on deco when a bronze whaler started circling us you realize there is nothing you can do. So you just make peace and pray...
What is the deal with the Masked Angelfish? I hear that they are found at relatively shallow depths in certain locations but are not legal to collect? Are the only legal collections points at extreme depths?
I would love to see these fish in the wild, I have seen pictures at those depths by one of the collectors in Hawaii. Awesome stuff!

Any northwest island is illegal to collect. North of Niihau is all illegal. Only place to legally collect them is main Hawaiian Islands which they are very deep and very sporadic... Probably just waifs from where they are breeding which would be north islands. So yes, they are actually quite rare in Hawaii
