SC Aquariums Owners Thread

Has anybody ever run their system without the Overflow. I'm waiting on parts but could probably get the tank going with existing livestock. Any input. The tank itself should hold water and the Overflow be dry is that correct?

so long as you fill to a lower level then overflow teeth yes it will hold water. but you will need water movement in there to churn O2. I would personally leave in old tank till you are ready personally...

The only issue I see with that approach is that you are still limited on what you can do in the stand. Sure it might not be idea but you can hide an ATO container elsewhere and just have tubing coming to the sump/tank.

If you are planning on running items like the spyglass reactor that sit in sump then less of an issue but something to keep in mind as you think of all of the equipment and such you plan to keep in your stand...

Yeah, it's all about space and trade off. I do like that the 150 sump is actually a little shorter. This will allow me to potentially add reactors and dosers over the sump. Like I said before, this will be my first experience running a sump, I used to run a canister filter in the past (liked the filtration, but didn't like running all my monitors and skimmer in DT). This was my weekend project...

Built the stand, did the plumbing, never done anything like that before. Really enjoyed it. Those blue 55 gallon drums were a great deal and the place I got them from triple washes and sanitizes. Try as I might I could not smell anything in them. I did also wash them myself.

Who is the source of the 55's? Do they ship the containers or you have to pick them up...

It is texastotesandbarrels.com

Not sure if they ship outside of Texas, but I did see other places that do in my searching. It appears there is a bit of a market for used barrels and containers. TT&B has a contract with a juice place, so it was only ever juice in the barrels, not ink or oil or something like that. If you are in TX they have multiple locations within a drive. Their service is excellent and I am very happy with my barrels.

If you are looking for containers: http://www.ruralking.com/

Just order one which is more then $99 and shipping is free...

I followed the direction of mr soulpatch and bought the ace roto container from rural king. It took about 3.5 weeks to get. I got the 40 gallon, shipping was $10 I believe.

I've had multiple comments that go like this "You paid $80 for a container" which I reply I sure did.... And I would do it again.

I took a marker and wrote over the gallon markings on the container for better visibility.

The pvc and 90 on the right o the ball valve is not glued in. I didn't want it sticking out any further and risk someone walking into it and snapping it off.

Fantastic, thanks!! Just pre-planning for my inevitable upgrade coming over the winter.

What category on the page, I feel like a dope that can't find these things. "water container, storage container, plastic container" I do not see these blue ones you guys are posting :(

Is this the 40?

That is the 40. You'll have to pay shipping since it isn't over $100. The 65 and 75 gallon ship for free. The weird thing is if you look up the 55 gallon they want $200 to ship. My guess is the over all height of the 55.

I just cheeked the 35 gallon = $74 but 8-10 weeks to deliver!!

Found one locally for $99 - $10 coupon off - no shipping at Tractor Supply.

7 year hiatus but back at it!

7 year hiatus but back at it!

Purchased a 50 gallon SCA PNP Starfire about one week ago. Replaced the bulkheads with standard.

Broke down my last reef tank about 7 years ago, bought this tank after walking into a lfs. :lmao:

Using the new AI Prime HD, seems to provide great coverage, but I don't have any coral yet so we'll have to see when I get some. :fish1::thumbsup:

YES!! my tank delivered today successfully - with one little error- they forgot to put any trim on the inside of the custom canopy - so it fits over the tank and does not sit "on" the tank. Steve is already on it and sending me the trim.

For pics go to page 16 of my build thread.

Congrats, tank looks great! Your patience has been nicely rewarded. One quick question, did you pay for the lift gate service? If so, did they just pull it off the truck or did they deliver it to the garage or... just asking to see how I need to handle my delivery that is coming soon.

Thanks in advance, will be watching your build...

Just received an email from Steve, price is basically what's on their site; am I not receiving the pricing love that some of you refer to?? :(

I keep seeing that the bulk heads are being replaced with standard bulkheads. What is the deal with the ones that come with the tank?

BTW I am working on my custom stand for my 50g I'll post pics soon.

"T8T"- The bulkheads that used to come were apparently NOT real good. But I think they have upgraded them. The bulkheads I got with my tank seem fine, but wont be used either , as the Acrylic guy building my overflows will use his own.

"tex" - Regarding the shipping/delivery - my tank was lift gated to street in front of my driveway from back of truck , then the driver used a pallet mover to put the 2 pallets in the garage for me after I inspected the contents. He had to wait for me to inspect - so I tipped him. I could not get info on how that would be done- I think it is individual based on driver/truck. I had a few moving dolly's ready to go - but did not have to use them.

"Speed" -My price was better because I got the last of the old walnut stands ( 30 inches high vs 36) and was willing to wait for them to build a canopy to match it, because they did not have anymore. SO my stand/canopy were "clearance".

Although , i just measured the stand height and it is close to 35 inches, tank sitting at 32.5 and the inside area is 28.5 inches high. Also, the color if the stand and canopy seems more like Cherry than Walnut. I like the color, so no biggie. But, still seems weird on the color and height discrepancies.
