I dont mind the valve on the emergency but only when a union valve so you can kill water to that line and disconnect. The ball valve here has no purpose.

I also suggest you switch the drain to a gate valve and add a gate to the return

Yep, total bonehead move and thanks for pointing it out. The thought was kill the water to the drain if I ever needed to disconnect, but that does zero good after the union. I'll redo this today.

As for the main drain, I've always had gate valves in the past, but used a ball this go around simply to match. I don't plan to restrict the drain all that much, so I'm not to worried about it.

The return rate will be controlled by the pump and not a value, which is the reason I didn't add one in line.

Have a lay off the late night vodka and plumbing.:lolspin:

No pump is going to be exact enough to tune for a tank. Yes DC gets close but you will always be a bit off which is why almost everyone runs a gate valve on their return. You can take the actual gate off and paint it to match should you wish.

I think they are from china...

anyway, I just got a few quotes and I thought SCA was going to be the cheapest, but apparently miracles is even cheaper.. I think im going with them!

Just an FYI.. Steve (SCA) got back to me today on that 60x30x24 that we were discussing in the other thread. His folks determined they had to go with 3/4" glass as well (he had hoped they could do it in 5/8")... but his price on it beat every one else's quote by a significant margin.. and I got a quote from miracles. But it's still 2x the price to go 25% wider.

So, which route you going to go!?!

I wonder how Miracles was able to beat SCA's price.. maybe steve went aggressive on my quote to make some extra $$$ lol..

Make sure Miracles is doing starfire glass on all three viewing panes and not just the front pane as well 125. Something I saw when looking at my quotes last night when I was trying to see how much Steve beat them. It was something I had to ask for from Miracles. Not a large charge but still something to ensure you get so you can see everything from all angles.

Yep it's definitely 3 sides. It's on the contract. Also, the difference in 3 side starphire versus no starphire at all for both miracles and Coast to Coast was only $300... so the addition of starphire or not doesn't really impact the cost of the tank that much when you're talking about $3-5K for a custom tank .

I don't know how Miracles is doing the shipping packaged into such a good price though.. Coast to Coast itemized the cost for me, and wanted over $1K just for crating and shipping.. they also wanted $200 to drill 4 holes. That really impacted the price of their quote.

coast to coast was double the price of everyone except reef savy for me.

But even the custom layout I wanted from SCA was 1/2 the cost of a generic tank design from MIracles. You must have gotten someone on a good day to beat the price. Good for you!!!

Make sure you get a detailed description of what you are getting. SCA and the Reefer (I'm almost sure) come from China, and for a company to be so much cheaper, be on the lookout.
Not implying anything, it is probably an excellent deal, but be sure everyone is up to speed on what's coming.

Well, I was a lil skeptical at first because I heard Miracles prices were very high, but the contract written up looks good. The prices weren't extraordinary different but it was a good savings between each. The shipping that was the gotcha.

All quotes for identical build of 72"x24"x24" with 3/4" glass all around, starphire front and ends, black back & black silicon, 4 holes

SCA: $3500 including shipping
Miracles: $3000 including shipping
Coast to Coast: $3,435 + 200 hole drilling + $300 crating fee + 605 shipping

I think SCA and Miracles has something worked out with their freight company where it allows them to have much cheaper shipping. Otherwise, woulda come close to Coast to Coast price. And I think Canada's exchange rates are very favorable to the USD right now.

I woulda contacted Reef Savvy but last time in 2011 when I did my 120g build, it took felix about a month to answer my email lol.. by that time, I had already ordered a LeeMar tank. I do think the Reefer and SCA tanks that are mass produced will have significant discounts over a custom order, just because they can pop them over and over without changing dimensions, holes, cuts, etc. regardless of China or not.

wow that quote from SCA is significantly higher then I had gotten for a custom tank I was going to put together before I went with the stock 150 since he made me a deal I couldn't refuse.

Maybe Steve is trying to include high margins on this one.. get something more in the wallet for March?!? lol..

If I was looking to buy a rimless, starphire tank in those dimensions I personally would wait for the reefer XXL 750. It will look amazing and cost less

I'm not positive yet but... It's looking like more and more that I'll purchase an Elos 120xl. I want rimless. I want it wide. I want that sharp, contemporary look... Custom is going to cost about the same price. I am not going to spend the kind of money it's going to take to get the size I want rimless. (160xl)

Ya that was my first consideration. But I looked at other reefer systems, specifically the xl as an example. I have two big issues with it which are dhow stoppers.

1. The total height with stand is only 58". I was staring down at the XL and will need to crouch down to view. I'm only 5"9!! My current 120g is 63" tall with stand and so will my new 180g. Strange but the max s650 is about that tall too. Height wise it's perfect!

2. The cabinet is modern and personally feels like IKEA to me. Some like it. It I really hate it. Dies not go with my existing furniture at all

The reefer xxl 650 is listed as $2799 so I assume the xxl 750 would run in the park of $3300... if I had to redo the stand, I would basically be buying a stock tank for $3300 when I could get a custom tank for $3000.

My logic ;)

Makes sense. I'm going to build a small platform for mine because of the short problem. I like that IKEA look over the wood look but I completely get it. The look has to be right for the room.

Wondering if you guys can help me out.Have some plumbing questions on my V2 150. The return holes. Am I using hard pipe up to bulkhead then loc line? What size did you use for both and did you use the flat loc line discharge? Also the ghost overflow pipe size is? Thanks.
