SC Aquariums Owners Thread

Wow. What am I missing? So it is just a piece of straight acrylic? I figured it would be customized to fit in the teeth.

30$ for a flat sheet of acrylic? Could have bought that at lowes or HD for like 5$. I would be calling steve asking him whats up?

I was just going to call him for a cover on my overflow(after seeing the one on Souls overflow), but after seeing this, I might just go to lowes or HD and buy a piece of acrylic.

My only problem is my plumbing sits slightly above the overflow teeth making a flat piece of acrylic useless as it will just rock on the plumbing and leave a gap.

So you don't use a cover?

Not currently, no.

I have a clownfish that gets picked on by my other fish and 2 other clowns(long story on why I have 3 clowns), he lives in my overflow and is quite happy and growing in there. Every time I remove him, he jumps back in there, so I just leave him in there now. I would love to take him back to my LFS, but my wife likes this particular clown to much and she won't let me. I just want to stop more fish from jumping in.

....And as we all know.... Happy Wife = Happy Life!!

If he lives int he overflow then your wife cant see him. Take him back.

And no my overflow was not a straight piece of acrylic. Mine is shaped to match the overflow cover with rounded edges and 3 sides have extra on the bottom to sit on top of the overflow teeth.

For those who got a basic piece of acrylic I would def be calling Steve and asking ***.

That surely changes things.

I haven't been back in touch with Steve yet. But will be emailing him these pictures. Hopefully this is not actually the cover, but I have my doubts since apparently I am not the only one to receive this. I will update with the resolution, if there is any.

There might be a bit of confusion here. My tank is the 150 size and my overflow box is rectangle in shape (not half an oval or something like that). The cover does sit on top of the overflow box and it is slightly larger than the overflow box so it doesn't fall in. It doesn't fit exactly though, so as you are looking at it, the right side sticks out because the left side doesn't fit between the overflow box and the back glass brace at the top of the tank. Like I said, my main concern was to prevent light from going into the overflow box which it does. It's just not an exact fit... maybe off an inch or less from left to right.

I have the 150 as well. While the box is a rectangle it has rounded front corners where the acrylic bends for the overflow. My cover mimics that. Yes it is perhaps 1/8-1/4" wider so that it can sit atop the overflow. I had no issues sliding mine all the way back. If you do then one of your teeth might be sitting too high and that is easily fixed by cutting it down a bit if you need.

Could you please send me a pic?

I believe all overflows have those rounded front corners. So, you'd think the cover would at least follow the basic shape of the overflow. Otherwise, what's the point?

soulpatch, a photo would be helpful so we can all understand what it should look like.

I've reached out to Steve with photos to inquire if this is really the cover. I'm hoping they can do better than this. This won't keep light nor life out of the overflow as it sits now.

I will try to remember to take pics tonight. On daddy duty this evening as the wife is out so I can't promise it will be tonight.

This is the pic I received when I asked what they looked like.

That looks a lot like mine but I believe I have a bit more rounding to the front edge (though my memory is not a strong point)

You can see the seam in this pic to show the extra acrylic base that is on the sides and front.

Good day folks. Its been a while but i'm finally getting close to setting up my custom 150 rimless that was built by Steve last year. its built to accept the synergy reef overflow and is made from 19mm glass. I'm nearly done with the stand just needs to be sanded and stained.

19mm? That is thick! Did you get the custom synergy bulheads for the glass thickness?
Just curious, steve offers the same tank rimless with 15mm, did you think it wasnt enough?

Yes i went with the bulkheads that can fit the thicker glass. I decided to go with the 19mm or 3/4" glass cause it was only a few hundred bucks more and it would be stronger since i went with the rimless.
