my local fish market is now ordering live scallops! yes LIVE scallops. i was wondering if it was ok to introduce some scallops in my refugum or can it contain some viruses or diseases or w/e, i just like them cuz they make clapping sounds and they have billions and millions of eyes

getting them in your tank sounds like it's the easiest part involved. how do you plan on feeding them? is this for a temp situation like when i was a kid and i would have tons of bunny rabbits until one day i was eating them covered in bbq sauce? i doubt they will be suitable for your tank but would love to hear reports of your success!
good luck or tasty eats!

I wouldn't do it. They aren't reef creatures. What happens when they die of starvation and start fouling up your tank?

No way...they require masive amounts of particulate food. Like a constant stream of phyto 24/7 which would foul your tank. They're non-photosynthetic.

First lesson in Reefkeeping 101: Don't get a creature unelss you're 100% sure you can meet all it's needs.

Ummm ya.

I'd say no to the periwinkles and worms. They are delicate and somewhat hard to feed creatures which usually just slowly starve to death. You need to start with easy to care for creatures and research ALL their care requirements before considering them.

It's more than just those things. THey all have to be within certain ranges, some fish will eat them, etc.

It sounds like your getting your requirements from something like liveaquaria.com (NOT a good source)....a few book would probably be a good investment

ohh, im just tryinmg to raise them alone, i have alot of extra shells that might go nice with some hermits, and about the periwinkle thing, i think u might be mistaking by what kind, im not sure its its called periwinkle but its orangewith black lines and it has a long sypro shell, there shells also look like a coral tye thingy with many little holes on it, some dont, some has caroline algae growing all over it, ands thats all i know about this snail, its not those little tiny black snails

Are you kidding me? That's the worst thing you could possibly do. Don't just buy something and see if it lives!!! No no! It's a living creature.

A little bit of research and you can determine whether you can meet it's care requirements.

well someones gunnna buy it and eat it soon enough, and it WILL die over night for sure, and if its dead they freeze it, sell it for cheap, or they will just throw it away, so in a way, i am trying to save some lives
