Scarlet hermits and SPS?

The other night I noticed a scarlet hermit walking all over my new Monti cap. He then proceeded to take a few huge chunks right out of the rim of it. I'm fairly new to stony corals but is this common? I don't remember hearing anything about scarlet hermits not being SPS safe. Thanks.

Below his left claw you can see the area he excavated right before I "helped" him off.

My guess is that he didn't rip the tissue off, but rather went after some filamentous ot other type of algae that may have been growing right there along the edge, or protruding from underneath of the coral. I've kept sps for 10yrs, and have never had a Scarlet bother any of them, nor have I heard of it. That's not to say it couldn't, or in this case didn't happen, but the chances are very unlikely.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Looking at the photo closer I think I see some brownish algae on the underside of the cap. More than likely that's what he was going for and he just happened to get a few chunks of the cap.
