Scarus quoyi in 180g?

Hi all

I saw a very nice Scarus Quoyi in my LFS. Its about 4" and came in yesterday.
Do you think I could keep him in my 180g mixed reef?

Main fishes in my reef: Moorish Idol, Blue girdled angel and Tomini tang

They are one of the few parrotfish that do not rely on hard corals for their diet- they actually eat plants/algae. However, they are very likely to chomp down on stony coral in a reef tank, just to get to algae growing around the polyps if nothing else. It Will be hell on a reef tank. That said, Scarus Quoy are probably one of the best species to try if you're dead set on having a parrotfish, they're just best left in large fish-only systems.

However, I would not try them in a six foot tank.

I have one in my mixed reef, he's completely safe minus small inverts. I think the concern here is tank size, as they are really active fish. However, they are also relatively slow growers. A 6' 180g would be an absolute minimum for this fish IMO, and once it grows an upgrade would be in order.

If you pick him up, make sure he's eating and deworm him before he goes into your DT, they are known for internal parasites. Mine thrives on NLS and hikari seaweed extreme pellets, but eats everything I toss in the tank.

Ok.. Maybe its better for me and the fish if I pass on that. The parrotfish was always one of my absolute favorite fishes becaus he is such a coloured beauty. I plan a new tank 400g.. Ill wait until my new tank is ready and will then order a parrotfish.

My plan is a tank 150cm x 100cm x 100cm (5' x 3.28' x 3.28') hopefully this is exchanged correctly.

They are beautiful fish with a very curious personalities, mine always come sand checks me out when I approach the tank. Mine is in a mixed reef and hasn't hurt anything, they will scrape on the rocks but that is normal. I think the parrot fish is better suited for the 6ft 180 as opposed to double the gallons but less length
