Scheduled power outage help!

Fpl just contacted me for a 3 hour outage which in my experience is typically 5-6 hours. Is there anything that I should worry about? 50 gallon tanks x 2 full reefs.

If you have fish & inverts you should aerate the water somehow. The more heavily stocked the tank, the less time you'll have before low oxygen conditions can kill.

And you want to avoid temperature extremes.

The more precautions you make the better.

You probably have little to worry about. I transfered 2 clowns, 7 chromis and a dottyback in a 15 gallon tote. The trip was well over 6 hours without any heaters, air pumps, or water movement.

I might even consider just taking a few buckets of tank water stirring them violently with something to infuse air and just dump it right back in the tank. Do that once every hour and call it a day.

Also, keep in mind many of our tanks inhabitants are shipped in plastic bags of 1 gallon or less of water and it can take up to 24 hours before they are unpacked and acclimated to a tank.

I was thinking about doing something similar to that Jade with the buckets. So Oxygen is my biggest concern temperatures stay pretty constant. Air bubbler battery powered should be the only thing then? I am more concerned about my corals, the fish are tough cookies.

I found some extension cords. We could connect'em all together and run'em from my house to yours! Oh wait...I don't have a house. :bounce3:

Well the power has been out going on for 2.5 hours at this point, they said from 9-12 and it started at 12 so that's to show you how accurate fpl is. Fish are freaked out a bit, my foxface turned Cano in the beginning of the outtage. I put on some David Bowie and he calmed down!! :)

You could always get a booster pack for starting cars and an AC adapter in the future. Then you can run a regular air pump and/or a power head.

By now either the power outage is over and Mylesh is out getting trashed or his tank is crashing and fish are dying! :-)

I lost power to my tank around 1am and didn't see it until 8am, that's 7 hours of no heater or flow. Didn't loose anything. The temp dropped almost 10 degrees. I have Zoa/paly and SPS. Fish include anthias and wrasse. I just feel I am a very lucky &%$#$%&. Just ordered a battery powered pump for future, may not be this lucky next time.
