He was a LR HH (gulf of mexico), and hasn't done any harm that I've seen, I target feed him every few days with a bit of shrimp, and he grazes the LR sticking his skinny claws in the holes. He's moved one of my gorgonians a couple times, other than that no harm (yet?).

Again, thanks in advance for the ID and any info!

I do think it's a type of decorator, but I'm hoping to find a scientific name, the decorators I've been able to find s.names for look nothing like this guy.

I have a smaller decorator crab also, he is constantly decorated and very hard to find. This guy seems pre-decorated- the orange globs on his legs and head seem to be part of him, not just decoration. The 'decorated' decorator is also all white, none of the blue/purple marks this one has.

Hey 650- I see we're practically neighbors! I live near Genentech. Can you recommend anywhere near us for livestock? I know of 6th ave in the city, and I've been to UA in San Mateo. I've also tried aqua traders in san bruno once... but I guess I missed all the action as they only had 2 choc.chips and some shrimp left in the marine tanks. Thanks in advance!

You're not going to get a scientific name on a crab unless it's a very distinctive species. This one isn't.

It's a majid, aka spider or decorator crab, but beyond that it's hard to say.
