Scopas / Black Tang ??? Hybrid ??

I was at a lfs and they have a very dark scopas , almost all black. If it had a longer nose and none of the striations I would swear its a black tang.

My question is does this cross happen ? I have read a lot of articles and it sounds like people are very undecided.

I have a true black tang in my display tank but I'm looking for a tang for my frag tank, and thought this would be a cool one

yes they do i have 4inch in my display love it i find it more beautiful then a true black tang

I see a few for sale every year, a few people I know have them as well. They are a cheaper alternative to a true black tang. But IMO no where as nice as a black tang.

Very true I have a black tang as well but I'm looking for a different tang for my frag tank and thought this would be a interesting one

Anyone that has one , how can you determine if its a hybrid or just a scopas ?

I've seen quite a few on Pacific Island Aquatics' website in the past. I don't know how regularly they get them in, but the ones that they've had were really beautiful . . . and all fairly small. You might consider emailing Kevin at PIA for more info. He was very helpful when I ordered from them.
