Scott W. Michael: what happened to Reef Fishes series?

They never did a hardcover on the first, to the best of my knowledge. I really want a volume dealing with tangs!

Sincerely,
Matthew

If not now, they did make the first in the series in a hard cover. I have one that I got in 2003 or 2004. Much larger book than the others that have been released. Like everyone else, I would love to see them publish the remaining books.

Hi all, today I sent an e-mail about the availability of the next three volumes, mentioning the e-book option. This is the reply:

We apologize, but at this time we do not plan to publish any other volumes.

Thank you for your interest in our publications.

TFH Customer Service.

Dream is over :(

That dream died for me a long time ago. I do think it's worthwhile for more people to contact them. If they get a lot of questions, it might demonstrate an interest and get them to revisit. Probably not, but it might.

What e-mail did you contact? About 90% of mine have gone unanswered over the years.

In this day and age I'm surprised they won't e-publish. With the number of people using tablets, smart phones, e-readers, etc. there must be some profit to be made. You can self-publish in an e-format and get a 70% profit margin (depending on the site and contract details).

I wonder who 'owns' the original material - Scott or TFH? If the former, perhaps he can e-publish eventually. I too would love to have the remaining volumes.

Don't know if this is still the case, but it was TFH before. He had finished his part well over a decade ago. I'm sure he would love to self-publish at this point.

I suppose if he was paid for his work it is TFH to do with it as they please - even if that means nothing.

Hi, I send the e-mail to "info at tfh dot com" and amazingly received an answer in an hour. I said in the mail that, fans of the book would appreciate even the e-book version, but still the answer was a polite no.

Can anyone contact Mr. Michael about this subject?

And one more thing...

This may sound super fantasy but there are websites like kickstarter.com Once I financed a pre-written book project by that site. If we can contact to Mr. Michael (assuming he is the legal owner of the documents) maybe we can collect the necessary minimum of the amount. Or we can start a petition on change.org

Let's do something folks :)

I have an old e-mail from him buried somewhere. I'll see if I can find it, but who knows if it's still active.

Also, I know he has an account here, so, with luck, he'll see this thread. (it was set up so long ago, and he doesn't post much, so I actually don't even remember what his username is)

I have his contact info, pm me, and I'll send it to you.....you've been around a very, very long time....:-)

No one readds books anymore.

Heck 10 years ago, I could not get people to buy his books. They were awsome, I had over 30 reef related books in my collection.

Unfortunatly the majority of the hobby would rather spend $30 on a fish that will die in a week then on a book that will tell them how to keep the fish alive.

So is the way of the world today.

No one needs books when they think they can find all the answers on the internet.

Ahem! (Cough), I *DO* buy & read books. And my name is...
well, never mind. But having something I can hold in my hand & feel is a pleasure totally absent from an Internet search. Even one on Reef Central.
But of course, I am also, sadly, showing my age..

Sincerely,
Matthew
