I was talking with Mitch today aka kerruso. I found out he resigned from there due, to thfact he does not want to associate with scotts any longer. The reason I got was the bad practices they are performing.

I decided I wanted to go in and check it out. I went with a fellow reefer who isn't on the boards here. I was awe struck with a new store in such poor conditions. The coral tank was awful dirty dingy water a few softies some lps and 3 clams. everything was pretty brown and terrible looking. I forgot to mention the fact I almost slipped and broke my neck walking inside since all the floors are soaked. I figured ok new tanks No biggie. Lets go and check the fish. Well even bigger surprise. Cyano infestation in almost every tank. Not only that but some very small tanks jam packed with 25-30 yellow tangs small ones but none the less maybe a 55 gal packed with them they looked like they were staving and a few dead ones. They were definately gasping for air. Prices were Pretty fair but the quality and slim to no selection really upset me.

This in all honesty would deter me from doing any buisness with them. I am not trying to slam them but.. in all honesty I can see why Mitch will no longer associate with them. These poor practices make for very poor results and unhappy customers. Hopefully they will realize this before its too late because I would love to see a great reef shop that is right around the corner from where I live.

Seemed like a ridiculous business plan to me from the start, even in a strong economy which I think we can all agree this is not.

There is no good time to start a business but right now its cheap to start. So its a good time to start but. without good quality healthy product your destined to fail. epic fail imo

I am truly sorry I could not turn things around.IMO there is a sirius lack of management.It proved difficult to change things. When someone does things the same way for 20 years...they don't want to change.Thats why Scotts looks alot like Tropaquatics...same old hag fish feeding on dead reefers.For what it worth the owner is a good man...his mistake is his fish shop management.

thats too bad. i wanted to check it out, but if its like that then im not going to waste my gas and money on another petco.

Well this place went down the drain fast. I thought this place was going to be good.... I am sorry Mitch that this did not work out for the better.... I guess it is true when you can't teach an old dog new tricks... :thumbdown

so I gotta ask, is the old management still there? ( the one that used to run Trop). If so, I gotta ask why such 'good 'of an owner would let Mitch leave instead of letting go of the old management that is supposedly so bad. ( I have never been nor met ..) That doesnt seem right.

Rod, I was shocked when I walked into the original Scott's building a couple weeks ago and saw the same stale faces. That, to me, was what convinced me there was trouble. The plan to simultaneously open like 4 places was what led to my post above.

Really, really odd.

Haven't been to the new store, but had expected it to be one of the good ones. With the large skimmers and fuge's that were installed, I'm surprised to hear that cyano problem - I would have thought they would have kept the nutrient level in check.

I was excited and gave them the benfit of the doubt when they opened, it looked like it was on its way to being a great little LFS, especially with Mitch there. Its sad it fizzled so quickly.

Dana: The assumption you articulate here is an all-too-common one in this hobby, and fundamentally flawed. Equipment is meaningless if the husbandry is negligent, abusive, uncaring or otherwise deficient.

+1. Seems like a REALLY bad business decision.

Sorry things didn't work out Mitch. On to bigger and better things.

Scenarios like these are really depressing, knowing that such great species
are being treated like sh*t because people can't run their business's properly.
I have a solution. -----> :fun2: lol
