Scotts Pet shop, Seriously I am Disappointed

I went there Friday. Almost no saltwater fish in the tanks. Systems look well designed with plenty of flow, almost too much. There is no place for the fish to rest. Fish look tired and hungry. Purple cyano in the tanks, maybe from being a new system, but still doesn't look good. This should have been a nice medium sized store. You cant expect nice equipment to equal a nice pet shop if they cant maintain the setup. Its too bad even a enthusiastic kid can fight the cyano.

Tropaquatics in Lombard has some good help and there tanks look clean. They still don't have alot of coral but I am beginning to think that Chicagoland can only support 2-3 dedicated coal stores. Lets face it only so many people can or want to do a tank capable of coral. Mail order is another huge competitor.

Bottom line if you cant keep your tanks clean you wont last. I hope they can turn it around but should reevaluate further expansion til they get it right with the stores they have.

I did get 3 Bar Gobies/Dartfish from them a couple of weeks ago that are doing well. I hope things get better since we can all use another nice saltwater pet shop.

Are we talking about Scotts 1 or Scotts 2,

I had expressed my disapointment in the new store in previous threads which eventualy lead to the the thread being closed :(

thanks i think the crunch software is not working.

There is no diference between the two. Same conditions at both. I went to pauls for a beef sandwich and decided to stop in. I clled Mitch he told me the bad news. I decided to check the new place out. Lets just say its not good.

Thanks guys...I have been thinking about this for some time. Its good to know u guys are there.thanks for confirming my thoughts.on to biggger and better is right. I never signed a noncompetive agreement.I was asked to.

You hit it right on the button! Yes she is still there. Unfortunately she will be the prime reason they fail. "I never check for Alk" Huh ***?
so I gotta ask, is the old management still there? ( the one that used to run Trop). If so, I gotta ask why such 'good 'of an owner would let Mitch leave instead of letting go of the old management that is supposedly so bad. ( I have never been nor met ..) That doesnt seem right.

Bigger and better meaning your own store, hehehe

I'm sure Aurora would be a great location for a new store, after all it is the 2nd largest city in the state.

Good for you. Too bad for them...

I'll be following Mitch as long as he doesn't move north of the "Chedder Border", lol. And I agree, Trop in Lombard has a good staff and the coral selection is getting better.

well fwiw non competes are only good while you still work there & are usually meaningless unless you get a severance pay after you leave. Shhh.

I was in there yesterday and there was a beautiful wrasse stuck to the overflow. When I commented on it, the girl sweeping the floor told me "there's nothing wrong, wrasse's do that normally" The fish did not appear to be breathing. Can't we call some cruelty to animals society?

What, your wrasses dont stick to overflows all the time ?!?!? :lolspin:

What a joke.... Good thing you left Mitch before your name could be tied to that fiasco any....

All that can really be done is report on chat threads like this and hurt that business by not going in there anymore.
Place like that makes me sick.

There is a place over in Lake in the hills kind of like that. The girl (owners kid) is nice but like a box of hammers.

Everyone wanted to jump on people's rears when some of us doubted this business decision in the beginning... why would you open up another store when your first one wasn't right to begin with.... then when your second store promises a bunch of coral/reef stuff, it doesn't have it when you finally open.... so now your 2nd store isn't right.... but wait, we aren't done yet....a 3rd store was already on the way to being built, yet two of your other stores are crap....I don't think any of us that doubted in the orginal Scott's Two thread were trying to bash the store, but rather question the business decisions of a store that was never really "that great." I hate to say... "told ya so" but honestly this is common sense, not rocket science...You could totally see this coming...It doesn't matter what you put in your store to get people there (ie shark tanks) if you run your business in the same crappy manner.... and don't adapt to change... then you will still sink to your death... It sucks to see things like this happen, as we all want more reef stores, however, +1 with mytery... I never bought in
