SE Halide

Where is everyone getting their 250w bulbs from these days? All I can find are Radiums and Hamilton's and I'm not really interested in either.

What happened to SE Phoenix 14k???

Need bulbs ASAP, but the results are quite limited!

I'm using a electronic Galaxy ballast.

Well those two brands are the better ones that sell, vendors are just not stocking halides anymore. They are going the way if the dinosaurs

yeah right! They are here to stay,
Giesmann makes a new bulb. Its called the Megachrome. Seems costly, but claims an extended bulb life. If you want cheap, go to 1000bulbs dot com. The plusrite 20k is nice. They are less than $20/bulb.

I see that now. It looks like Phoenix discontinued the SE and only make DE.

There are still a number of good brands out there, though.

Yep, been using Plusrites forever.
So ya gotta change em every six months, big deal.

ive ran my radium for 16 mths before with little effect on growth lol..

that being said MH is going the way of the dinosaur, we carry less than 5 at any time at the store. Sold more kessil today than MH all year.

I respectfully disagree with MH going the way of the dinos, for good light penetration for deep tanks, it's still the gold standard to which others follow. Of course the heat issue is a problem but that can be managed.

Sorry, I'm a bit old school lol. I love LEDS, but Im finding myself having to supplement with T5 for more pronounced growth.

I just sold my radion G4's, ran previously Hydras, kessils...all sucked compared to my Mh results.
I only do sps, so to me color and growth are KING, which made me go back to MH's, regardless of how shimmer, no heat...etc seemed real nice.

Leds these days CAN closely mimic Mh's, but are not there yet. I just bought a giesemann spectra SE with Radiums. Will stock up on bulbs for maybe three years worth, in case they somehow disappear before the three years come up. I will then check out what leds are up to and maybe take a plunge again trying leds.

MH's spoil me, because they make my sps grow to the max, and I end up thinking that is easily achievable with other fixtures. I then spend $ going led, and regret.
Led features are nice, led shimmer is awesome, but at the end corals are what makes me look at a tank.

Ive ran DE Phoenix in my previous tank, nice color temp, daylight with nice blue tint.
Radiums though IMO are what it is all about

I purchased a 250wt SE Hamilton 14K about 6 months ago to see if I would like the look of that bulb without any supplemental blue lighting. I ended up purchasing another 3 years worth of bulbs, as I'm really pleased with the look & performance. HTH
