Well Marcye has done it again. I asked her to get in some more anthias for me, and she has done so in an incredbile fashion. She met up w/ me as i am quite a ways away from her. But she lives not to far from where i work, she met up w/ me and got me my fish, they are all incredibly gorgeous i am gonna do my best to get some good pics. Thank you again Marcye. you never fail to deliever!!! ;-)

Well, you are certainly welcome. Soon I'll have to have my 4-runner painted like Nemo with a sign that says "Delivery Service Available..." Lol. Glad you're happy with your new fish. Let me know how they make out. Marcye

so far so good Marcye, They are stunning under my light. My sunburst is already getting fired up about 'em, mostly the male. I am not sure what his/her deal is... but she'll get over it! Thank you again.

What type? I got her square anthias a couple weeks ago. It took 2 weeks+ for my male to eat but he is eating like a pig now.

Hi guys...looks great Jay. Just a tip...make sure they get some green based foods....Formula 2, Frozen Spirulina from Ocean Nutrition is my favorite. I've read they suffer vitamin deficiencies if not and can develop lock jaw. I always feed the greenery first, then the meatier foods so that they get into their diet. Good luck and looking good! Marcye

Hi Pacific Reef, my Squareback never lost his color nor has the female and they've been under metal halides since day one.

Hi guys...looks great Jay and fantastic picture as always. Just a tip...make sure anthias (and most fish for that matter) get some green based foods....Formula 2 and Frozen Spirulina from Ocean Nutrition are my favorites. Think of it as adding a salad to dinner;) I always feed the greenery first, then the meatier foods so that they get into their diet. Good luck and looking good! Marcye

Will do. I always feed or have whoever feed in the morning when the lights come on the formula 2. Then I feed frozen and then a tinch of formula 1 before bedtime.

Great policy! But, from all I know about both you and Sean, "Conscientious Aquarists" comes to mind:) Anthias are also in need of the multiple feedings, as you're doing Jay, to stay healthy. They will also pick at live foods. Anthia are often very skittish in the beginning. I love them. I am filling the 300 with a large school of Purple Queens. They are usually very hard to keep because they are a challenge to feed, but I have been adding one a week and they love Cyclopeez. I am soaking it heavily in the Zoe Marine to get the Spiralina in them as they just laugh at it in the mornings when I try to feed it. Wish me luck...I am getting them very small and will be keeping a school of about 8-10. I'll let you know how they make out. Marcye

I might have to find my female squareback a new home...she's beautiful but I lost the male to lockjaw (that's how I learned so much about the feeding of anthias). She is barely tolerating the Purple Queens who are much smaller. If I decide to adopt her out, would you be interested in adding her to your harem? I'd be willing to give her to you to get her a good home. You know how weird and attached I get to my fish *sigh*

Sure I'd be more then willing. I should be in orlando again soon. Is it nutrition they get the lockjaw? I've heard of lions getting it because of their nature. I'm not all up on anthias but I do feed often and small amounts to keep em going.

I can give you a call when I'm in the area a day or two ahead and I can pick her up. I'll pm you tommorrow about another item I'm looking for too.

Jason

K...it may be at least a couple to a few weeks since I don't know if I can get her out before I break down the 90. She's fast and my rock work allows for lots of hiding places. I'll watch for your PM. Marcye

Now I remember what I saw:

and this

After I read this I was afraid to try, but maybe the great diet you feed you fish is the key. Also this link may be a different species? Thanks for the feedback
:)

I had a male that faded, and female became brighter.
I find the females easy to keep, but the males difficult. Mine, and I have heard stories of others....began to war with his reflection every day. he finally retreated to the back of the tank, refused to eat..and died. I loved this fish...Mr. Pretty
See how he changed in color.

Could that have been nutritional Carole? You said the female got brighter. When we visited ORA this week they talked a lot about pigmentation and the fact that the same species of clownfish that lives in deeper waters in the exact same area as one that lives in much shallower water has lots less color. The most colorful clowns live in shallow waters in the wild. My reading tends to point to the fact that anthias often suffer from nutritional deficiences in tanks that are easily correctable and that they also do best with a harem of 3 females or more. My male never lost his color. I do advise though that they have plenty of caves or ledges to swim in as that would give them some respite from the high light on an ongoing basis.
