Seachem Matrix Carbon Group Buy?

Ryan,
I want to thank you for doing all the leg work on this.
Also Jake, I want to thank you for putting this G.B. in motion.
Thanks again, Mac

No prob, thanks everyone.

As Ryan mentioned this carbon is not rinsed so you'll want to rinse it before putting it in your tank. I run mine in a reactor so I just put the outlet line into a filter sock for a few minutes to catch all of the dust.

Bumping up an old one... sorry if anyone got jumpy and thought there was another buy happening - there is not (at least not yet).

I'm almost done with mine and had been thinking about ordering some more. If you follow the original link in the first post you'll see the price on the same amount has gone up over $100! It is now pretty much impossible to get this stuff for under $14 per liter :( I was just wondering what everyone thought of their carbon from this order?

- How long did 4 liters last you?
- How did you like the carbon?
- Have you used other brands before or since? How do they compare?

I'm think that we got clearance price on an old batch. This might also explain why it was so dusty. Until this batch I had never seen that much dust with Seachem Carbon. The packaging changed right around the time we purchased, so I'm pretty sure someone was clearing their warehouse out. I wish I would have grabbed a second bucket at the same time!

To be honest, I'm not sure that if I even plan to run carbon any more. For the last 2-3 months I have not been running it and my water has been looking fine. Lak and Jeff have both seen it recently and would probably agree that it's clear. Since I have not stopped running GFO I decided to put a few cups carbon back in and see it makes any difference that I can tell. I run a very small amount of Purigen in a sock and I might just stick with that. I dunno. I've always liked Seachem carbon simply because it fluidizes very well in the reactor, it's clean, and reportedly has on the of the highest color removal ratings verified by independent tests.... I'm just not sure I really *need* it any more.

Wow I can't remember how long it took me to run the 4L. I know I don't have any from the GB left. By far this has been my fave carbon for many reasons. More or less I like the size and shape of this specific carbon. As you mentioned Jake, it took well in a reactor. In a different GB I got some BRS carbon. Let's just say I really didn't like the BRS carbon in comparison to size and shape.

FWIW, our club sponsor Tropical Haven honors a nice discount on all Seachem products. The discount can be seen on the NVR sponsors page for contributing members.

Hmm. I wonder if they stock the Matrix carbon, or what sizes they might have. I haven't been to TH in a looooooooong time...

They carry it there Jake. Next time I shoot over there I'll try to take some mental price notes.
