Seagrass papers (for the real nerds)

Calling all marine plant nerds!

I just put up a bunch of links to really interesting seagrass papers. Some are older (I cant believe I missed them before!) but a few are very recent.

There is one that was just published that I think is super super interesting on iron supplementation into the substrate.

Check out Sedimentary Iron Inputs Stimulate Seagrass Growth. Its just the abstract unless you have university access, but should give you an idea and feel free to ask questions. I've read the paper and hope I can shed a little more light. :)

I would call the seagrass research world pretty hot at the moment.. in just the two months of 2008 I've seen at least two dozen seagrass oriented papers worth perusing!

Happy reading..

I read the abstract but don't understand what they mean by sedimentary iron "inputs". Is an "input" the amount of iron in the porewater from some specified depth of the substrate? And is all iron present considered an "input", or just some forms? I think I recall that some forms of Fe are chemically bound in a form where they are not really available.

I'm interested in the subject of "inputs" to the substrate and supplementing major and minor nutrients in the substrate. I've purchased eqt (high pressure persitaltic pump) that can push liquid fertilizers into the bottom of the substrate if I ever get Tank2 set up.
