Anyone ever hear anything about seahorse.com?
was thinking of ordering from them, pretty neat place they even enroll you in a training corse to care and be sure you have the proper environment for them. For FREE!

Thanks for your comments,

To be honest, OR gets very mixed reviews. I've had SH from them and their stock was OK, but as top notch as one would expect, esp. for the prices they charge. They have so-so customer service, IMHO.

You'd do better to get your SH from Dan and Abby at SEAHORSE SOURCE. Their stock and customer service is incomparable, and they're super folks in general. Another nice thing is that they clearly state whether a given species has been bred by them or if it comes from another source (unlike OR).

A great hobbyist/breeder is Beth (Peka here on RC), and she usually has super nice SH (she breeds reidi and erectus).

If I were looking for more SH, Dan or Beth would get my business, hands down.

This is EXPERIENCE speaking...not something I just herd. Four or five years ago I ordered some of the more expensive seahorses from Oceanrider (...or Seahorse source...both the same). They shipped 1 horse amd said they would be shipping the other just as soon as they were big enough. I contacted them about 20 times, they finally quit answering my calls. That Seahorse must be a S L O W grower, because I haven't heard anything from them since. SO make up your own mind...Dan and Abbie are the GREATEST to work with....and every single time they have answered countless stupid questions from me...have tremendous supplies and Livestock....and have never failed to respond to me ASAP........Seahorse Source is 5 stars
for me.....If you will post on here...there are also some other GREAT people on this forum that will sell and ship also.....Saehorse Source...Peka and Saylors Reef are all woncerful to work with........

Interesting. Do you remember who you were in contact with there? I know it was like 5 years ago and probably out of the question. I've been in contact with someone named Pete that I email 2-3 times daily getting through the training classes. Which is very informative, and very helpfull. I just want to make sure I'm buying good ponies and feel good about dropping hundreds of dollars.

Pete is a good guy, but I don't know that his helpfulness translates across the company. BBB has them with a score of a D (I just checked because of another recent thread).

You will never hear a bad word about Seahorse Source, I too would recommend going with them instead of Ocean Rider which has a questionable history and is more expensive.

A training course??? Is it all expense paid trip from them for the training course?? I too purchased some from OR. They were pricey. They use beautifully colored photos then insert the prices. I learned my lesson.
Seahorse Source has my vote hands down for the best and healthiest stock as far as a commercial based 'nursery' for horses. They can always be reached for questions.
The best training course for Seahorses: This forum or Seahorse.Org. See- here is a training course. Just read on!!! Is experience not the best teacher? Thats what these forums are all about.
ps-- Always be wary of LFS specials on them. If they are cheap- they usually are wild caught. Always ask what they eating. That will be your best indicator purchase.

So you didn't get what you ordered? and how long ago did you order?
I don't think I'll be ordering from them but the course is worth while and I learned a great deal from it.

Thanks for helping out

Oh I got seahorses. They looked just like all the other ones that you can get on reputable sites except I paid a heck of alot more for them. Back then I did not know that there was no such a thing as a lavender or gumby-green seahorse. Just stick to the basics.

BBB is not a good way of checking on companys. More so when they show good ratings. All that means is no one has complained to BBB about them.
