seahorse

In your LFS, likely erectus.

The biggest available is likely the potbelly (which I desparately want to get but have never seen available.

What you want it for? (why are you looking for the biggest?)

logan,

it would help if you give your location. different countries tend to have different species available.

If you're in the US, i would NOT get SH from the LFS. you'll do much better with a breeder or hobbyist breeder.

H. kuda are often available and can reach up to 12", quite a bit larger than H. erectus. i believe Dan at www.seahorsesource.com currently has kuda.

also, WC SH are generally larger than CB SH, but WC's are harder to keep. WC's need to be treated prophylactically for parasites and trained to eat frozen mysis unless you have an unlimited supply of larger pods and small live shrimp for the life of the fish.

Can someone tell me the pro's and con's of having a seahorse?
Ive tried to read some of the post on here, but all I find are people who dont know which to get or what color.. blah blah blah.. so far what I heard is that the water temp has so maintain 74 degrees.. is this correct?
Also what eats SH?
I have a 75gal bowfront tank with lots of reef, hard and soft coral with (naso tang, yellow tang, marron clown, porcupine puffer, flame angel, snowflake eel, 4 green cromies) I think thats it..can't remember right now..
Would you think a SH can be safe in my tank?

Thanks for your help....
Adrian

I would recommend against putting a seahorse in there for many reasons :)

+1

that won't work for a multitude of reasons...tankmates being first and foremost.

so that wasnt much help,, any reasons?

TANKMATES...every fish you currently have will either eat, kill, or harass a SH to death. that's not counting any stinging corals you may have. also, SH don't compete well for food.

TEMPERATURE...max temp. for tropical SH is +74*F due to bacterial issues.

FLOW...your flow is most likely not SH-friendly.

so many kinds

so many kinds

Zebra I doubt. Where is this store located?

It's the ONLY store probably on the Continent then that would have all these so I doubt it.
What pygmy species do they have?
It's one thing to list these species, it's another thing to stock them.

most likely wild caught, even nafb and big al bring alot of seahorses around here, and its funny, they say they are captive bred, and they feed them live brine so they regain their strenght LOL haha

I love how those ppl trick others lol

more than "doubt"...there are only a couple in captivity, and i know who has them. the location they were collected at is being kept a secret as well.

i also doubt that the store has "pygmies" of any species...
