Sebae Anemone not right

I just purchased a Sebae Anemone online. When I got it, it was floating upside down in the bag. I aclimated it like i was supposed to and then put it in the tank. It was doing ok and my clown was instantly drawn to it. The whole first day it apeared that it was pushing some of it's internals out of it's mouth. Then yesterday morning it had pushed out it's inside into a huge blob about the size of a baseball. It then let go of the rock last night and I found it floating through the water today, still with the internals pushed out. Is my anemone dead?

Here is a pic of when I first got it.

Here is a picture while it was still atached but after it's internals came out.

And here is the picture of it floating after leaving the rock.

i would pull it out ,shipping very hard on them likely will polute tank big time if dead ,quarantine it if you have another tank but likely its too far gone

Its beyond dead, remove using a container so the pieces don't get spread all over the place.

sorry for your loss. These guys just don't do well with collection, shipment, and new tanks. You will notice many in the stores come in in pretty poor health too.
If you would like to try again, take some time and search your LFS for a healthy (or as healthy as you can find) specimen. In this case darker is better. The healthier you can start out the better your chances are.
Again, sorry for your loss.

What should I get for my clowns to host in. I have a pair and they instantly took to the anemone. I think they would probably host in some different corals too. What is a relatively easy coral to keep that they could host in?

Ours would host in anthelia, but the anthelia didn't really appreciate it. Sometimes they'll hang out in zoanthids (or other types of polyps) too. I think the anthelia was their favorite until we got an anemone, but we had to replace the anthelia occassionally because they were too rough with it. I've heard, but have not done this first hand, that they like things like frogspawn too. I think just anything wavy. When those aren't available, they'll host the powerhead or even magfloat, at least that's what ours did :)
I would double check your water parameters too, just to be safe. With an anemone dying in your tank, you may need to do a little maintenance to keep the other things safe, and to get things stable before adding anything else.
Good luck!

I just took the anemone out on my lunch brak and there is definately some work to do. The water started getting cloudy. I have cleaned my filter sock. Should I add carbon or something to it as well.

I would probably add carbon. I had one of these guys and it pretty much nuked my tank!! I did about a 10% water change every other day for about 2 weeks and I also put in carbon and a polyfilter to remove all of the stuff. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the polyfilter as they pull everything (good and bad) out of the water. Water changes are probably the best thing you can do to help things move along in the right direction! Keep us posted.

Also, a healthy sebae will look grayish with purple tips. If they are completely white with purple tips this usually means that they have secreted all of their zooanthalae and will probably die. I have seen people bring them back, but it's rare and you must have pristine water conditions. I learned this all from the one that died in my tank a few months back! Good luck, they are cool but difficult!

That sounds like a fairly healthy sebae. I don't understand why he decided to die! What are your water parameters? Also, usually they are pretty hardy as long as they don't excrete their zooanthallae. I am a little stumped, but rest assurred, water changes will benefit the tank the most. Good luck, these guys can be frustrating, but hang in there and you will be fine. Good thing you removed him when you did, they cause a huge ammonia spike and practically kill everything. In my experience, the difference between killing everything and everthing living was only about 2 hours, so it's a good thing you romoved him when you did!!

All my parameters are normal. The tank got a little warm today, but was fine up untill after it died this morning. I checked the amonia after I took it out and it showed 0. It is a brand new test kit so it should be right. I will do water changes and hopefully everything will be ok. My Blue hippo tang was in the corner by the sand, but he stays there a lot anyway so I think he is fine.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I think you will probably be ok. You will know soon whether you caught it in time. I think you will still be ok, it's just kind of scary when these guys go because they really mess things up. I think you are doing the right thing by doing water changes frequently to prevent ammonia spikes. If your tank is a 150 I would be a lot less worried as that's a large tank and it would take longer to pollute. Still a good idea for the water changes over the next few days.

Well, I got home from work and the water had cleared up some. I did a few things to the tank and it is gradually getting better and better. Everything in my tank seems to be doing better than they were before the anemone died. All of my fish are swimming happily throughout my tank, my snails and hermit crabs were all out wondering. It was much better. I had just purchased a Blue Hippo Tang and he stayed on one side of the tank. Now he is swimming all around it.

Thanks for everyones help.

Great news. Those sebae anemones are difficult to keep. I think they should stop selling them so widely in LFS stores. I would guess about 95% of them die regardless of the particular setup they are in. They are almost always in poor health when you recieve them and they just aren't hardy. I am glad that you were able to save your tank before it nuked it!!
