sebae anemone PLACEMENT HELP

Just got a new sebae anemone and was told to place him in the sand on the bottom. I'd really like him to be about mid way in my tank on some rock. Where is the best place for him?
 
+1 ^^^^^^. They like being on sandbed with their foot underneath attached to a rock. How old is your tank & what type of lighting do you have on it?
 
Tank is 6 months old and It's T5HO. Placed him on a rock mid way down in the tank and he seems happy. Opened up and looks great right now.
 
If their foot actually attaches to the rockwork, it shouldn't matter if it's close to the sandbed or not.

Do sebae's like lower lighting intensity ?
 
Mouth open is normal if it's a small opening, maybe just big enough to stick a pencil eraser inside. Much bigger then that and it's probably stressed out, this is probably a normal reaction to the new tank.

Give it a week and see how it adjusts. usually over reaction will just cause it more stress :)

It does matter if they are touching the sand. The anemone will probobly detatch tonight, or move lower.

Mouth open is a bad sighn why do you say its normal?
 
Just make sure you don't try and move him if you don't like where he made his home. With any luck he will be visable in the location it chooses. Very slight gaping isn't too horrible, hopefully it closes up tightly soon, its probably just stress of the move. But with that said, if you have an anemone that looks stressed, keep an eye out for disintigration, you don't want it to crash your tank.
 
Ok so he, with my help, moved to the bottom of the tank. Still lookes stressed a bit. I"ll leave him alone and watch him over the next few days. He's white and about the size of a softball.
 
White = bleached. In the future any white (( and yellow for that matter )) H. Crispas should be avoided.

What size tank?
How many T5's? What color temps? Individual reflectors?

Going to be honest, you do have an uphill battle.
 
I am guessing that you have the 72" fixture?

Bleached means the anemone (( in this case )) has expelled most (( if not all )) of its internal algae (( which it uses to provide "food" )) for whatever reason -- stress related.
 
I would say 90% of the time sebaes (crispa) want to be either buried in the sand or at the sand/rock interface. That being said I have seen a few kept long term in rockwork but it isn't the norm. If it were me I would see if you can gently remove the rock he is attached to and move both the anemone and rock down to the bottom of the tank. The anemone will likely be more comfortable in the sand and will benefit from not being overexposed to your lighting as it will be further down in the water column.
