second 6100 making a strange noise out of the box

Well, I ordered the TS24 stream kit from premium aquatics about 3 weeks ago. One pump was on back order so I recieved 1 6100 and the multicontroller. I hooked it all up and added it to the tank and everything seemed peachy. Well, I got the second 6100 in the mail yesterday and this morning I installed it and wired it to the multicontroller. However, the new pump is giving me a bit of a vibration noise. I checked the impeller and it fits in snug, it turns properly and everything is clean and fine, I just wonder if maybe it needs to be broken in? I dont remember if my first pump was ever noisy but it is basically SILENT at all times. Should this be a topic of concern or will the newer pump quiet down in a week or so?

Make sure the bush bearing is fully inserted and then try installing the prop/magnet assembly under water to get the air out. If that doesn't do it give it a week to run. Most wear in will ocur within two weeks and generally noise is reduced substantially in that time period.

alright thanks man.

I made sure to disconnect and reconnect everything underwater also got all air out of the assembly. Still got the noise but im betting it will clear up in a week like you said. I will keep you posted.

2 days now... still making the noise. It sounds sort of like a cranking noise. Like if you were to turn a gear with a gear over and over. I dunno, I just have a feeling this isnt the way it should sound. It isnt overly loud, but it does give off excess vibrations and when i put my ear up to the side of the tank it is on, I can hear the cranking/grinding type noise. The other pump, when my ear is put up to the tank by it, gives off no noise at all.

Did you check that the bush bearing is in all the way? This is the collar around the hole. I would also try prying it out and reinserting it rotated 180 degrees. Also check if the magnet is cracked. It has to be one of the drive unit pieces and the bush bearing is the usual culprit.

ok i removed the bush bearing and reinserted it 180 also swapped out the impellers on the quiet and loud one and it did quiet down a little. I get about the same sound coming from both now so maybe its just a slime issue. Ill give it a few more weeks but at this point im pretty happy with the results. Thanks again.
