Second Annual Coast to Coast Sand Trade!

cool!

You guys keep an eye out for worms that look like snail poop. I've got a TON of them in the sandtrade tank now. When you first see them you'll think that's what they are - but then they move :)

yeah - they're very exciting. I have a few crawling up on the rocks - they're easier to see when they do that. Problem is, they're sand colored and grainy. Almost ike they cover themselves in the sand for camoflauge...

James, where do you have the 3rd annual sandtrade thread? I would like to join in.

I am in the process of adding more sand to my SSB. I would like it to be a DSB. Adding southdown to it shouldn't be a problem, should it?

I was thinking I could add maybe 1/2 a bag every other day. Hoping this would give the new sand time to seed with the 2nd annual yummy sand.

Thanks,
Steve

The 3rd trade starts in January and runs through June. Signing up sooner rather than later is a good plan. I can only handle so much sand a week - so the sooner you get in, the sooner you can get your sand back out.

Cool James, I was in the last one and couldn't be happier with the critters I received. I assumed from your tagline, that I had missed an entire thread somewhere.

Did you see my other question? I'll repost.

You have a couple options:

You could cycle the sand in a different seperate container for a few weeks first. Take a scoop of your sandbed and throw it in to a shallow container (1" or less of sand) with some water from your main tank and a powerhead. This will allow the bacteria to populate the sand and help weigh down the southdown a little and hopefully avoid some of the sandstorm.

You could just add very small amounts over the course of time.

I would choose option 1 - but either will work fine. Just be sure not to add too much in 1 place and smother the life in the sandbed.

Jamesurq,

Do you have any sand left for sale? I just started a 175g and am in need of some live sand.

Thanks

Sounds good. Just PM me if you're interested. There's 189 people signed up already. We start shipping next week I believe.

Cool thread! I remember when I first signed up here in RC (2005) this is the FIRST thread that I read. I still remember it. :)

What is this?

What is it?

The sandtrade is the best opportunity to add diversity to your saltwater aquarium at almost NO cost! By gathering sand from hundreds of aquariums across the country and letting them co-mingle for a couple of months, the resulting diversity is incredible!

How do I start?

Just sign up on this page with your e-mail address: www.thesandtrade.com and let us know you're interested. We will contact you when we're ready for you to ship. When we are, you take 2 cups of sand from your sandbed, bag them up and ship them to the address given. Include $5 to cover the cost of shipping it back, and you're good to go!

How do I ship?

Ship via 2-3 day priority mail. Using a fixed rate envelope or box is cheapest since sand tends to weigh a lot. Make sure you triple or more bag your sand to avoid leakage!! And put the cash or check in a seperate ziploc bag.

When?

Sign up NOW. The sand will sit and stew with sand from all over the country and 2 cups of the resulting stew will be sent back to you in October.

Who?

Anyone who has a fishtank and wants to increase their diversity. Newbies, experts and everyone in-between can join. Any type of sand you have, any size tank. The only rule is that you have to know what a flatworm is and know that you DON'T have them. Sand will be thoughroughly examined for flatworms upon receipt and during the curing process.
