Sentinel for red bugs

Sentinel (Milbemycin oxime + lufenuron).... Spectrum has an extra ingredient (Praziquantel) which is anti-worm and known in the aquarium trade as Prazipro. I think prazi is in general reef safe in terms of fish and corals, but will kill off many types of worms which could cause nutrient spikes. I'm not sure of it's effects against AEFW.

Did you ever try the Milbemax Cat out?
I just ordered some from ourpetworld which is in Singapore. When compared to Interceptor Spectrum and Milbemax Dog, it is actually the cheapest per mg of Milbemycin Oxime, and like you said, I'd rather dose less prazi.

See the attached cost breakdown:

I use it to keep pod populations in check. Works fine, and the skimmer doesn't go nuts like with sentinel and interceptor spectrum.

So I have read this thread from the beginning and as is the case most of the time, there is discrepancy in the opinion for dosage.

Anyway, it seems that the majority of people agree, that the dosage is that 1 23mg pill will treat 300gal. Is this correct?

If so, when crushed, a 23mg pill yields 2.5tsp or 10 - 1/4tsps
So if you divided the 300gal by the 10 - 1/4tsps the dosage calculation would be that 1/4tsp of a 23mg Sentinel Spectrum tablet will dose 30gal of water volume.

Can someone please confirm or deny my assumption?

Thanks

I contacted my vet and they only carry sentinel spectrum. Now I've read this thread entirely as well. I have a large maxima clam, skunk cleaner shrimp, coral banded, and a harlequin shrimp. After what I've read the clam will be safe. But I should try to remove the shrimp. Is this true even with spectrum?

totally forgot about this thread, I did use the Milbemax, worked just as good as the old interceptor. Red bugs are dead.

FWIW blue leg hermits kicked the bucket with Milbemax. Two coral banded shrimp and they both survived the treatments.

If you can get the shrimp out easily I would take them out

@dadummy
That's awesome to hear. Is the process the same with the milbemax? Did u use the 2-8kg cat pill? How long did it take for the pill to ship to your house?

I used the Milbemax large cat because it was cheapest per mg of Milbemycin Oxime (MO). I crushed a half tablet and mixed it with tank water for a few minutes before dosing. My system is about 140 gallons, so that was 8mg MO/140gallons. Worked great - no sign of red bugs since then!

If I remember, it took about 10-14 days to get it.

just looked it up, yes the 2-8kg cat pill. Prices went up, back on 7/23/14 it was $6.19 for two tablets. Good thing is a script wasn't needed. Took around 2 weeks to get it as well. I don't remember the dosage I used. I wasn't too concerned if I was off a little, I had dosed higher than the suggested dose of interceptor in the past with no ill effects. As long as I saw the redbugs stop moving and fall off, the dose was good.

16mg milbemycin oxime per tablet

Just called my local vet and they said they are now carrying interceptor. Only downfall is its $56 for 6 tablets. Kinda high but at least it's local. I've been living with red bugs for a while now. I think I'm ready to take the chance.

I hope for you, you have one success with the treatment..

For me after 3 treatments, the bugs is comme back!

Stupid little monster..
