September Tank Pics...

Did a MAJOR tank overhaul over Labor Day weekend. Removed my 2.5yr old ssb because it was turning to solid brick in some spots.

A big thanks to Marko9 for helping out 6hrs on Saturday during the ordeal. Spent a total of 30hrs working the tank and cleaning up. Lost a few frags and an old cyphastrea colony i'd proudly grown out. A couple acros are still recovering and a few got accidently broken.

i've vowed to myself that i will never waste another weekend of my life doing something like that again unless i'm taking the system down. its been 3 weeks since the overhaul and the colors are starting to return. Pics are otw... :D.

Wow, after seeing your tank before, I'm curious how it could be better. I'm sure there are a few of us that could... uh... "help" some of your broken coral pieces recover....

C'mon Tim. Don't make us wait for the holy unveiling.

Still looks awesome to me and a tank I can only dream to have :) 30 hours huh??? I get tired just doing a 5gal water change heheehe. I don't know as much as you do but if you ever need help on a project like that drop me a line as I wouldn't want you to ever give up on a tank so beautiful.

Glad to see the reef back together. It does look wired BB ;) Thanks for letting me help out and convince myself that I never want to do that again. :D

BTW, I knew I missed some things that day. Thanks for reminding me.

Suspense and drum roll....

haha I was about to say... that was a long drum roll.. :)

Stunning.

Looks sweet Tim, I remember taking down my 450g that had sand, I can't even imagine trying to keep everything intact while sucking out sand=below average. My 700g will stay BB- do you like the new look of your tank?

thanks for the props and ribbing everyone :D

jtarmitage, send me a PM with what you're you looking for and i may have it :).

marko9, i prefer the term "zero substrate" vs barebottom . when people hear bb, they mostly think of systems with super strong skimming, massive flow and super low nitrates and phosphates (low enuf that cheato won't even grow). i like to have at least some nitrate and phosphate present.

elim, i replied to your PM :).

KEEPERZ, man it was brutal i tell ya. even a small bucket of wet sand is SO heavy :mad2:! i think the new look is just ok for now, but i'll do minor aquascaping here and there. i'm just glad its recovering in a good way :D.

kdblove_99, yes - i had to take everything out . we did half the tank at a time. and our house was full of makeup water and holding bins. the sand had fused to the live rock and mark had to chip it off outside while i removed the sand with a strainer and net. the tank got so murky and made it difficult to see. sadly, i know i scooped up and tossed out some frags accidently that had fallen.

Wow Tim, that was a lot of work! I can't imagine removing the all of the sand from that large tank as I would not know where to place all of those rocks and corals.

Good work, though. The tank looks great! :D

Didnt see it, but I beleive that that was a no joke job! Building my 50 back up refreshed my memory of how shaky arms and legs can really be at the end of the day:lol: I can only imagine what doing it 3X over would be like, er fun:rolleyes:

The work paid off guys, and looks great. If I recall correctly you seemed to have less headaches substratum free. Hopefully this will be the case, I know you've had your fair share of big ones in the past, hopefully this will be the ticket for you to finally kick your dogs up and be able to just enjoy, you definatley deserve it ;)

The head on that surf n' turf is sweet! Amazing through some of the losses, most of it looks like it didnt miss a beat! And that simplex looks like its in godmode right now!
