the last time i went zero substrate (5/2004), i utilized the barebottom approach and my corals lightened up and turned pastel. this time around...i plan on keeping nitrates around 5-10 and phosphates around .03-.05 while growing chaeto .

don't get me wrong, i love the look of sand and my wrasses are upset at night now but i couldn't take the sand turning to brick any longer.

hey karl, forgot to reply to your inquiry of the red watermelon. it was doing good for awhile, then started to recede and its about half the original size now. but the recession has stopped.
